Firstly I would like to make it clear that I have received an advance copy of this book in return for an honest review. Now that the boring bit is out of the way lets get down to the nitty gritty!
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all the Delver Magic books and following the character and location developments, however I always felt that the first book was a hard one to match.... this manages it and I can honestly say that this is my favourite book of the series since the first book.
I don't want to give away any spoilers and whilst it is an accepted part of the series that Ryson Acumen will succeed as the victor both morally and physically the plot was not predictable beyond that, and even gives the reader a nasty shock! The storyline, as always, flows nicely and the characters comfortably knit in within the previous books in the series whilst still managing to expand the imagination of the area with new locations and new characters. Very clever in the use of previous stories to create a brand new one. If you have not read any of the previous stories I would suggest starting from the beginning, however there is enough background info to ensure that the story will work as a standalone.
The last page of the book indicates that Jeff is already considering ideas for book 8 and that for me kind of makes up for his shock in Altered Messages as I can still hope for a Godson miracle.

We find Uton in the grip of influence of a council of serps, connected, malicious, and influencing. They threaten each of the races and there seems no way to stop how the past can influence the actions of the present. Excellent book, characters so real and with emotions and personalities they can almost make you believe that that real.An excellent read would highly recommend.
