4.0 out of 5 stars Well Above Average.
This is a well above average entry in the Edgar Wallace film collection, which at just over 70 minutes whisks along with plenty of characters and dialogue. It also has an unusual opening credits sequence for a 1938 film.

After very good reviews I was tempted to purchase this Edgar Wallace thriller. It's a little lightweight but nevertheless quite watchable. It was also nice to see a younger Wilfred Lawson reminding one he was not always a grizzled old man. However I'm not sure if I want to view any more in the series.

The only problem is that you'll probably guess the identity of The Ringer quite early on, although the finale does add a couple of twists on top of this revelation. Therefore, it's best to leave the image gallery until after viewing as one or two of the photos are giveaways! You can compare this version with the 1952 filming of the story, The Ringer, also released by Network. Personally, I think this is the better film.

My mate is into old stuff. He likes hammer horror, gunsmoke etc... Hopefully this will keep him busy... Tho Edgar Wallace is pretty twisted...
