5.0 out of 5 stars It just gets better
After using Painter 12 for about a year I thought that Corel couldn't make it better but surprise, they have.
Its not just an upgrade, its a new Painter altogether. I'm just not sure if they can come up with another
Painter but if they do, you can be sure it will be impressive. Thoroughly recommend it. Well worth the money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Painter as great as always but upgrade price is too high
Some new features & some tweaks to existing functions
Painter x3 is built on painter 12 and does provide some enhancements but really very little to warrant such a price if upgrading from painter 12

To search for brushes by name seems to be the headline feature Not worth headline position IMO
Perspective tool is good as is the brush preview...

Painter x3 is built on painter 12 and does provide some enhancements but really very little to warrant such a price if upgrading from painter 12

To search for brushes by name seems to be the headline feature Not worth headline position IMO
Perspective tool is good as is the brush preview
Access to training videos (painter jam) is not a product feature IMO but is touted as such
A context menu function is provided which focuses on key parameters for the brush you are using ... This is pretty good and helps with what can be a cluttered and confusing array of options sometimes
Cloning upgrade is of only limited value in use, and reference image capability is hardly groundbreaking
64 bit now supported which is good.

So, if you are new to painter and are buying full version then you will get a great product at an appropriate price

If you are using painter 12 I'd suggest you should think very hard before parting with this much cash.
Major release price.... Point release improvements !!

I guess I find it harder to accept this sort of price in an age where there is much high quality and sophisticated sw development on ios platforms being delivered for only a few pounds! None compare with the depth of what Painter offers it has to be said, but it is a consideration in these hard cash-strapped times!

Halve the upgrade price and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Okay, maybe I'm no artist or just a grumpy guy but this product is not intuitive. You cannot paint like you have a paint brush in your hand (bit obvious I suppose) and the range of menu options for each brush makes slapping colour around your screen just a slow pain and drains any artistic leanings you may have. I've looked at many of the painting examples that people have put up around the Web and all I can say is that their idea of a good painting is way..way short of mine!
I think Corel could do a much better job of the user interface and the way the tools function - if they were to consider how an artist (not me) would want to approach using a software canvas - there really is no feedback, no experience, no emotion when using this tool. Frankly, I can't see it ever even approaching the beauty of slapping dollops of real paint on a real canvas with real brushes.

It's about tme
Painter with it's Brilliant Brushes had a descent perspective tool! Similar to Manga studio 5ex the perspective tools add a whole new demensions to composing pictures! And the really neat thing is that once you set up a new perspective layout with the perspective tools - you can then add it to the basic collection as a preset and then recall it anytime you need it by a click of a button! You do not have to repeat the set up procedures! If you draw comics it is a real time saver! I hope they put add button presets for new perspectives in Manga Studio 5 ex! Let's say in the same picture you set up a scene in one point - click you have it! Then you want an object in it in two point! Click! It's set up! Or maybe some object at a custom angle in it you really like! Click! You can have that too! And it really shows off your freehand drawing after you Click turned off the perspective! And I love how you can now add brushes, brush sets and entire brush families easily!
When you take a loved program and give it that something extra it is a joy to use! Like I said they really needed something better than the perspective guides they had before but to simply set up a perspective you already have customised as a preset by just clicking on it! man that is Genius!
