Picking up where season 1 left off with Starling City recovering from attacks by Malcom Merln who is now a wanted man and Oliver Queen finding himself the target of Slade Wilson who was on the island with him and vowing not to kill. This season expands and hints at a wider DC universe though Deathstroke is more of an anti hero in the comics than all out bad guy here and appearances from Black Canary and Barry Allen aka The Flash who will be getting his own spin off series and The Suicide Squad from DC comics and fun voice only cameo from Batman villain Harley Quinn who sounds uncannily like her 90's Batman animated series version and hints at more DC characters to come. Excellent entertainment with a great cast even if the finale does feel like The Dark Knight Rises made for tv.

4.0 out of 5 stars Arrow's Second Season Hits It's Target, 22 May 2014
By
Timelord007 (The Tardis) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Arrow - Season 2 [DVD] (DVD)
THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE SECOND SEASON ONLY & WILL BE UPDATED WHEN RELEASED ON DVD.
CONTAINS MINOR SPOILERS.

Arrow Season 2.
23x42 minute episodes.

Trivia.
1)Stephen Amell is a huge comic book fan & cites Superman 2 as one of his favourite movies.
2)In the comic's Deathstroke is a anti-hero who has defeated both Batman & Nightwing.
3)In the comics Laurel Lance is The Black Canary not her sister Sarah.
4)John Barrowman & Colin Donnell play father & son Malcolm & Tommy Merlin, In real life there is only 14 years age difference between them.
5)Barry Allen features in 2 episodes in season 2 who's exposure to chemicals & a lightning strike transforms Barry into the super fast The Flash which is getting a series of it's own.

Plot Summary.
A year on from the destruction of the Glades & the death of Oliver's best friend Tommy Merlin, Oliver Queen leaves Starling City & returns to the island he was stranded on for 5 years who is alone & is seeking solace.

John Diggle & Felicity Smoak locate Oliver & persuade him to return to Starling City for the sake of his family, Oliver agrees yet makes it clear he has no intentions of taking up the mantle of the Arrow again.

With Oliver's mother Moria facing trial for her part involvement with Malcom Merlin of the destruction of the Glades, Oliver's sister Thea is in turmoil & the Mayor Sebastian Blood seemingly has a secret agenda of his own for Starling City who's in collaboration with a ghost from Oliver's past.

Who is the mysterious Deathstroke who has a score to settle with Oliver & is determined to seek vengeance upon Oliver Queen making him suffer by destroying his family & ruining his company.

Oliver knows he must don the hood once again & become the Arrow & bring order to the chaos & justice back to Starling City as he battles against Deathstoke who is superior in strength & agility due to a serum that has given him superhuman powers, Deathstroke plans to inject in criminals a serum from his blood creating a superhuman army to bring Starling City to it's knees.

Timelord Thoughts.
Season 2 picks up a year on from season 1 as Arrows second season once again takes risks & pushes boundaries delivering another excellent quality season that ramps up the tension, Drama & action pushing Oliver Queen to his very limits as everything around him is either destroyed or taken away while his alter ego The Arrow faces a formidable foe with the deadly superhuman near invincible Deathstroke.

Stephen Amell is outstanding in his dual roles as Oliver Queen/Arrow who has great charisma & presence & who carrys the show effortlessly as it's leading man who constantly delivers great dramatic scenes of emotion & handles himself well in the shows brutal fight sequences & stunning action scenes, DC have certainly got this comic book character right as this show delivers movie scale action & quality adventure of an epic scale on a tv budget.

Kate Cassidy as Laurel Lance deserves praise for her characters battle of drugs & alcohol addiction as her life spirals out of control following the death of Tommy as Kate Cassidy gives several great performances thoughout season 2 & eventually comes full circle with her characters redemption & even hints at the possibility at her character becoming The Black Canary.

Emily Bett Richards is the shows heart as Felicity Smoak she gives the show it's soul keeping Oliver grounded & supporting him through some of the most testing times in his life this season, Richards gives the show it's dynamic & could be a possible future love interest for Oliver.

David Ramsey as John Diggle is Olivers right hand man who aids Arrow in his fight against crime in Starling City, Again Diggle character along with Felicity keeps Oliver from crossing the line of descending into darkness & is one of Oliver's most trusted allies as Ramsey delivers many understated yet key performances throughout season 2 & his character will certainly get a intriguing storyline next year due to the bombshell dropped on him in this seasons climax.

Caity Lotz as Sarah Lance/Black Canary who was thought to have died during the storm & the sinking of the Queens luxury Yacht injects mystery & intrigue, Lotz is brilliant as the mysterious Black Canary who along with Diggle & Felicity aids Arrow taking down crime in Starling City.

Susanna Thompson delivers a three dimensional character in Moria Queen who is on trial for her part in the mass detruction of the Glades during the earlier part of season 2 who may yet escape her crimes upon the Glades, Thompson brings a deep fierce powerful personality to Morias character who you wouldn't want to cross paths with, Yet allows her character a maternal instinct as mother to Oliver & Thea doing what she must to protect her family as Moria is the backbone & inner strength of the Queen family.

Willa Holland has the least to do in season 2 yet does get a great arc towards the end of the season as we find out Robert Queen is not her father & the shocking discovery of who her real father is allows Holland to add grit & gravitas to Thea bringing the inner strength out of her character in several key episodes as her character slowly decends down a dark path & it will be interesting what season 3 has in store for her character.

But for me it's Manu Bennett who is the ace in the pack in season 2 as Slade Wilson/Deathstroke who was one time friend of Oliver Queen who due to Slade being blown up by a bomb on the island leaves Oliver with a life & death decision to make that has consequences that shatter throughout this season..

Oliver saves Slades life with a superhuman drug named Mirakuru yet at a cost, The side effects make the recipient unable to control violent rages of aggression & when another incident on the island occurs that results in the death of someone Slade loves it consumes him to kill whoever's responsible, Bennett scene steals every scene he's in & delivers truly mesmerizing powerful performances throughout season 2 giving his character a three dimensional edge to Slade Wilson/Deathstroke & makes for a formidable foe for Arrow to battle against & in a way you kinda want him to succeed.

This season has a few below par episodes with Identity & Suicide Squad which don't really add anything to the main story arc & there are a few plot points that you can see coming a mile off but on the whole Arrow season 2 more than delivers than it misfires & the shocking death of a major character shakes up the show taking the season to a nailbiting climatic conclusion while setting up threads for season 3.

A excellent tension filled second season that delivers top quality drama, Great characters, Excellent performances, Superb choreographed fight scenes plus film quality explosive action sequences & shocks galore.

Arrow goes from strength to strength & shows no sign of running out of steam, Roll on season 3.

Timelord Rating.
9/10

5.0 out of 5 stars Arrow - Season 2 [DVD], 3 Dec 2013

Arrows an awesome show, I'd say up there with Batman Begins and TDK easy, just on a TV scale which is as close to big budget as you can get!

Proper DC Universe series, much better than the later Smallville seasons which lost its way, this though, every episode TV gold, you can't help than get hooked, comic book fan or not. My brother is even hooked on this and he's as far away as you could get from liking comic book shows and movies.

Bottom line solid scripts, solid acting and solid villains, a must buy for every action loving DVD/Blu-Ray collector everywhere!

Season 2 blows season 1 out of the water. Action, stunts, humour is just awesome. Can't wait to see what's in stall for season 3 and beyond, very very nice twists and turns that keep you guessing. And the added bonus of adding Colton Haynes is fantastic!

Season 1 was amazing. Season 2 was even better, the characters really gel, and the storylines are really tight. The core group of Oliver, Diggle and Felicity are excellent and though there are a stupid amount of people who know the arrow's real identity now i truly hope that season 3 sees a return to the core group.

And producers please listen to me when i say PLEASE don't make Laurel Lance into the Black Canary Mark2. Both the actress and the character just aren't up to the job, keep it who it is at the minute i a loyal fan BEG YOU!
That being said - the little in jokes you throw us comic fans are wonderful - i for one loved the glimpse of Harley Quinn during Suicide Squad, and the little Flash jokes just perfect.
A absolute gem of a show - cannot wait for season 3!

5.0 out of 5 stars The arrow meets lost - season 2, 28 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A brilliant series with story telling and plot lines within sub plots that gets stronger as it moves along I can't wait for season 3 ;) what isn't explained though is why after the first season did Oliver give up hunting people from his dad's book, but with the league of shadows popping up in unexpected ways this season plays spin in line with the second year flashbacks that form the main story line ark, yet it ends with a mixed happy ending of sorts, all it can say is watch it and see.
