5.0 out of 5 stars The cuckoo's nest
A good old fashioned murder mystery set in Wales over a hundred years ago with a storyline as good as any Sherlock Holmes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay
Whilst this book is very eloquently written, I thought that the description was over the top. Just too much of it. The story was quite good but for me was spoiled by the continual descriptions of the hills, the waterfalls etc etc. May try another but would prefer something that moved with a bit more pace. Preferred Jonathan Digby's 'A murderous Affair'.

It wasn't a bad story and was well written but it didn't appeal to me. I found it difficult to engage with the characters.

It's a long time since I've been to the Elan Valley. I found this very evocative of Rhyader and environs. The twists and turns in the plot lead you along the wrong paths so take nothing at face value.

Good characters, interesting storyline, enough twists to keep you turning the pages. Nice little read. And it doesn't cost you a thing!

I thought the background plans and workings of the dams in mid-Wales were very interesting. Having spent my formative years in the Birmingham area my primary education was very much focused on the planning and construction of the dams.
I found the story line and mystery was good, in fact, very good. Excellent writing.

A bit misleading really, it is not set in Victorian England, but none the less
lots of twists and turns, good story.
