5.0 out of 5 stars Glorious showcase of contemporary weird fiction
The Lovecraft ezine, edited by Mike Davis, has wriggled and writhed its way to the top of the horror zine pile with an ever-improving showcase of dark imagination. By 2012 the quality of the writing had become consistently high, with every story in every issue satisfying with its expertise and originality. Some of the stories are really good whereas others feel like a vanity trip by the author. Quite a few I got to the end of and was completely bewildered. The stories were really gripping, and you can't wait to find out what is happening. Then it ends with no explanation. Very frustrating.

This review is from: Lovecraft eZine Megapack - 2012 - Issues 10 through 20 (Kindle Edition)
The breadth of settings and styles found within the ezine reveal just how boundless Lovecraft's original ideas can be: stories are set in all parts of the world; in the present day, the past and the future; in worlds that have never existed outside the author's imagination. From traditional yarns involving ancient monuments and mysterious temples to stories of Prohibition-period gangsters using the Necronomicon as a weapon of enforcement, Lovecraft's concepts remain as fresh and intriguing as ever. Most of the authors are already well-known to readers of the horror small press but newcomers get their chance to shine, too. The fact that the decision was made to keep this magazine digital only is absolutely no reflection on its quality. On the contrary, doing so has simply meant that the Lovecraft ezine is amazing value for money. And with the 2012 megapack you will be - ahem! - squids in!

Disappointing. Having waded through the master's catalogue [forty years since I last did that!] this was not the reading to follow on with.
