4.0 out of 5 stars Great...but not for degree level!, 7 Feb 2003
This was on my course reading list in my first year and I blindly bought it. Basically, if you can't do basic calculus, algebra or basic anything for that matter, this book if for you - anyone else need not apply!.... I'm giving it 4 stars as I suppose it does what it does it claims to very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good for a Start on Mathematics!, 4 Dec 2007

I am a teacher of Introductory Mathematics for Economics. Traditionally, it is not very easy to find good introductory books of Mathematical Economics.

I consider this book to be one of the best. It covers the most important mathematical concepts and techniques such as functions, differentiation, partial differentiation, integration, differential equations, financial mathematics. In all the chapters the reader will find several progress exercises adequate to an introductory level.

The authors clearly show a great deal of concern with the economic applications. This is one of the best aspects of this book: for every mathematical technique explained, the authors present several economic applications.

If you are an undergraduate student of Economics or Business you will find this book extremely useful. If you are a Professor you will discover several interesting examples of mathematical applications to Economic analysis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for those coming to maths after school/university, 24 Aug 2004
By A Customer
While this isn't suitable for those who did quantitative subjects at university, it is absolutely excellent as a text to get you up to speed very quickly. The explanations are clear and very well thought out without sacrificing important concepts.
I couldn't recommend it highly enough as a text book to give you a leg up into more involved mathematical economics.

Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Purchasing this book before starting an Economics course at university, I was pleased to find that it covered everything I needed for a first year introduction to mathematics. Whilst those who have covered maths in detail previously won't find anything new the exercises and examples provide good practice and help people quickly get up to speed.

The only thing to watch out for is the mistakes in this version of the book, particularly in the answers - however a list of corrections can be obtained from the publishers website.

If you want to study economics but don't know much of mathematics, then this is the book for you. Everything is well explained and the author makes the link between mathematics and economics in almost every problem. I highly recommend this book.
