3.0 out of 5 stars Amusing historical Wimpy Kid style diary
This is the kind of book which seems to have been conceived in the backwash of success of books like Diary of a Wimpy Kid. It ticks all the same boxes; minimal text, lots of black and white line drawings; slightly cowardly, navel gazing diarist who likes to think that he's better than he is, juvenile humour etc.

On the other hand, where I loathe the Wimpy Kid books, despite their perennial popularity, I quite liked this book, because at least it aims to please in an intelligent way. I'm not saying that you could teach children history using this book, but you could certainly enrich and enliven a curriculum or topic with it, and you might even get some of the facts in the book to stick in children's minds, because of the way they're introduced here.

I like this book better than "Diary of a wimpy vampire". It is interesting that we learn more about Egypt and Greece through the diary of an ancient boy
