Bethany Amaya has no time for love, nor does she want it. She is struggling to make ends meet and has a family depending on her back home. After a serendipitous encounter with city cop Damian Santiago, Bethany’s plan of keeping her head down and working hard goes out the window. She can’t fight her attraction to Damian, things seem to be going well until Bethany’s secret is exposed.

Damian’s job doesn’t leave much time for relationships, his priority has always been protecting the world from bad guys, until he meets Bethany and after seeing her perform, Damian knows Bethany is something else, he can’t help but fall for her, even though he suspects she isn’t being entirely truthful with him.

Bethany and Damian’s relationship moved at a fast pace, there was plenty of talk about feelings and love after only a week or two but to me it was just talk, I didn’t feel it between the two characters, it was lacking that sizzling connection for me.

The storyline was interesting and Bethany’s secret was the main reason I read on. I would say it was definitely original but I felt once the secret was out, there was little debriefing and it was straight on to the ending of the story. I would have liked to see that explored further.

This was my very first book by Elizabeth Reyes, it written in third person and I was aware of this throughout the whole book, I just couldn’t get lost in the story it was almost as if the writing was holding me at bay. I did like the setting and Damian’s family were great side characters, I suspect they might get their own stories.

Desert Heat was an ok read for me. I felt like it had a lot of potential and if the characters and storyline had more depth then I would be all in. With that being said, I would try another book by this author in the future. ~Ava

Desert Heat Elizabeth Reyes
Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews.
This is romance, but with a strong side of suspense. I liked Bethany, hard working, friendly, but its clear right from the start she's hiding something. Then she meets Damian ( that speed dating conversation they had was brilliant!) and they're both attracted. She's not got time for a man though, hardly has time to eat let alone a boyfriend, and he's always shied away from romance after problems in the past with his job, and the unfriendly hours and demands puts on a relationship.
They can't keep away though, and very quickly they are in the throes of a passionate and sensual affair. I understood why Damian was suspicious, having been caught in the past its hard not to suspect something when you're girlfriend is clearly keeping secrets, and getting caught out in lies. Bethany doesn’t want to be like that, but circumstances leave her no option, she simply can't tell Damian what's going on, the risk to her, her family and his career are too great. Secrets don't work in a romance though, and we eventually see the heartbreak fallout when some of them are revealed. Luckily Damian doesn't give up....
Damian, ah Damian, he's special. When he meets Bethany he knows she's different from the ladies of his past, that he doesn't want to let his job get in the way, but sometimes that's unavoidable. His family too, they're very close, and I feel there's more books to come about them. I hope so anyway, as they seem great characters, occasional secret rock heroes, and stars of a TV show. We didn't see a great deal of them, just enough to know there's potential there and how close and supportive they all are. Perhaps Damien would describe it as nosy and interfering instead, but in a tongue in cheek way.
Its a fun, hot, sensual romance, wrapped up in a tight mystery, one I didn't guess but lucky for me it all works out :)
Stars: Four, interesting and sexy romantic suspense. .

I realised the other day that I have more books on my kindle by Elizabeth Reyes than any other author and after reading this book I remember why! I love all of her books and this one was no different. I think one of the many things that I love about her books are the characters. They are all completely likable and draw you in straight away. I always find myself wanting to be a part of their world. I may live in England but I want to be a part of her characters' worlds!

Desert Heat had it all - great characters, gripping storyline and also it set us up for hopefully a few more books in this series. If you've enjoyed reading Elizabeth Reyes's books before then you will surely love this.

This is a romance novel about Damian who meets Bethany when he is persuaded into a speed dating event. Damian is a police officer who comes from a large family who have a successful car restoring business, are part of a cult rock band, and star in a reality TV show about the family. Bethany has lots of jobs including waitressing and singing/acting. They have an instant attraction and are immediately drawn to one another and begin a relationship. The relationship is between a poor woman and a rich man. Damian doesn't like where Bethany lives or the number of jobs she is doing. Bethany is attracted to Damian but she is keeping more than one big secret which will endanger the future of the relationship.

Most of this book is fine. The attraction between the two of them is well done although I found Damian's overwhelming jealousy more irritating than Bethany does - he became very possessive. The problem for me comes with Bethany's secrets which are hinted at all the way through the book and then revealed one by one. They lead to lots of misunderstandings and lack of trust from Damian and to be honest I don't blame him for being hurt as there are some pretty big secrets here which she really should have been up front about before starting a relationship with Damian. I didn't like her lying (even though it was by omission on occasion) and I grew tired of Damian's overreaction - there wasn't a lot of tension, however, as it was obvious from the beginning of this book how it would end.

Not a book that particularly engaged me as I was too irritated by the main characters. I received an advance copy of this novel from the publishers via NetGalley.

It saddens me to give an Elizabeth Reyes novel 2 stars but I really struggled to get into this book. I just felt like it was in a totally different writing style. I know it's her first 'published' book so maybe the publishers edited it too much but it did not have the same feel of her self published books.

I didn't think much to the characters or the storyline. It took me ages to finish it as I kept setting it aside.

I hope her next book is back to the Elizabeth Reyes writing style I'm used to as I didn't like this one at all.

I really enjoyed this book ,as I have all of Elizabeth's books, I have read every single one of them. I just wish the end would have been a bit longer. I really hope there are more books to come in this series. I will carry on reading all of this authors books.
