Kirek had once been considered the most powerful psi in the Federation. But eight years ago, while astral projecting, Kirek had been caught in a wormhole explosion. His mind had been blasted out to the far end of the wormhole, all the way into the Zin Galaxy. The Zin are a combination of machines and live beings. They are now threatening everything in the Federation. All the Federation planets' cores will overheat and melt the each planet's crust, killing all. It took Kirek seven years to return and another year to be reintegrated into his mind with all the body machines that had kept him alive. With his return, Kirek brought back a way to stop the Zin; however, only he and a single small ship would be able to accomplish this heavy task. The main problem is that during the astral projection the Zin tagged his psi and labeled him to be a threat. They would recognize Kirek's psi when he got close. Kirek needed to somehow block his psi from the Zin; and no one knows how to do this. Add to this that his psi had been damaged. Kirek can no longer astral project. His power is now limited.
Captain Angel Taylor considers her ship, "The Raven", to be home. The ship is in dire need of repairs and overdo on many checks. Therefore, the salvage she was after was considered very important. Yet she did not expect to find a Rystan warrior hiding aboard the salvage. Even worse, before they are even introduced the Zin attack, insisting she turn over the Rystan named Kirek. Kirek makes Angel a deal; she helps him and he takes her to the biggest salvage haul in Federation history.
***** This is the fourth book in Susan Kearney's series. Each novel is a stand-alone story. You do not have to read any of the previous ones to fully understand all that is happening. You will never feel left adrift. If you HAVE read the previous three stories, you will get a small glimpse into how the previous novels' characters are doing. Also, there is a teenage girl in the middle of this novel that has dreams of farming. Author Susan Kearney only gives a couple pages on this minor character; however, it left me hoping to see more of her in the future. I have high hopes. If you enjoy romantic space journeys, you will adore this novel. My husband has been reading them as well, then loaning the novels to his other male co-workers. So I can honestly tell you that males and females, both, would love this universal series. Highly recommended! *****

My first experience of Susan Kearney books was a major plus. This is the fourth book in the series and continues the story of Kirek of Rystan, who has now grown up to become a Rystani warrior with extraordinary psi powers.

The secondary characters are just as fascinating and intriguing as the main characters. This is an incredible story and must be read in sequence with the other books to give you the full enjoyment:

* The Challenge - This is the story of Tessa and Khan - this book can be a bit slow going in parts but it is worth it in the end;

* The Dare - This is the story of Dora and Zical. This one is my favourite. Dora is a hoot as a computer who creates a human body to be with Zical.

* The Ultimatum - This is the story of Alara and Xander. Loved his book

* The Quest - The story of Angel and Kirek. The final story in the series and a very satisfying ending - revisits all the other characters in previous books

Buy the whole series, you will not regret it.

"The Quest" is the fourth book in Ms Kearney's futuristic romance series; preceded by "The Challenge", "The Dare" and "The Ultimatum", all worth a read to intimately meet the secondary characters in this story and familiarise yourself with the futuristic technology and history of the Federation's battle with the deadly Zin. I should also mention they are all a fabulous read and "The Quest" in no way diminishes the high standard SK set with her prequels.

Rystani warrior Kirek at last takes a leading role in "The Quest"; the unique individual born in hyperspace who appears in all 3 prequels. With his unusually powerful psi and contact with the Perceptive Ones, Kirek is fully aware he is destined to make a significant stand against the Zin; however it takes him 7 years to recover from his coma (see "The Ultimatum") a period in which his spirit roamed free on the Zin's home world to assess its weaknesses. At last returning to his body; although his powerful psi is damaged, Kirek still possesses formidable strength. Trying to remain undetected in a wrecked ship, he is amazed when the salvage vessel's captain, Angel Taylor, senses his presence despite his ability to mask it. Facing her, Kirek realises he was not only destined to meet this woman, but also fall in love with her; a woman who wields a psi possibly more powerful than his own. The problem; Angel has no intention of playing the role of a typical Rystani wife and freely admits she only wants a fling. Tempting her to help him on his mission by offering the entire metal home world of the Zin as salvage, Kirek figures if he can save all mankind, he can certainly change Angel's mind about commitment.

I assume "The Quest" is the last book in SK's wonderful sci-fi fantasy romance series judging by the final outcome of this story and the fact no further works appear in progress. And a fitting end it is; this book is a rollercoaster of a ride, Kirek's battle to woo Angel nearly as fierce as his obligation to save all known life forms from the Zin when they reveal their ability to heat a planet's core and destroy it. With all planets within the Federation recording increasing temperatures, time is running out and there's nowhere else to run to. Only the unique abilities of Kirek and Angel, as they face the hostile Zin on their home world, can save every planet from destruction.

Loved this story. Very well written. One of my favourite writers. Also the idea of 2 friends both getting a gorgeous man. I feel 2 or 3 books for a storeyline is good also, as I feel after 1 there may be more and I am missing something. Congrats Susan, another great story.
