5.0 out of 5 stars The Fly Blu Ray!
"The Fly" still works quite well and has surprisingly high production values for a 1958 film of this genre even including a ballet sequence in it's attempt to evoke the cultural life of Paris: as the film - true to the short story on which it's based - takes place in France.

Strongly cast with David (Al) Hedison, Patricia Owens, Herbert Marshall and Vincent...

In a film full of hilarious reaction shots, poor SFX and hammy acting, the upcoming line stands out.

Context? Doctor O'Scientist has just transported a cat from one telepod into another. Only the cat hasn't showed up. It can, however, still be heard wailing, with a slight echo effect applied. O'Scientist's explanation:

"She disintegrated perfectly, but never reappeared...Into space. A stream of cat atoms. Ha. It would be funny if life weren't so sacred."

Cat atoms. CAT. ATOMS.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for it's time, 27 Jan 2009
This review is from: The Fly [DVD] (DVD)
I was quite impressed by this one being that it is so different from Jeff Goldblum's fly. The effect it has on his wife was good. In Jeff's fly he isn't married, but has a girlfriend. Plus the special effects are truly more gory.
But that is why I found this film enjoyable because I wasn't too sure of what the outcome would be? I liked it.

An all time classic with an excellent sci fi / horror story. Vincent Price doesn't have a huge role but nonetheless is outstanding as always.
Produced two sequels which were no where as good.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Fly, 12 Jun 2010

A classic which might have more fame than it deserves.disappointingly in colour, which takes any possible drama away...the sequels are better
