HISTORY:

Reprise label was set up by Frank Sinatra, using $200,000 of his own money. He was increasingly unhappy with Capitol Records with lots of restrictions and miserly royalty rates. Several of his friends joined the label, including Sammy Davis, Jr. and Dean Martin. Rreprise remained independent only until August 1963, when low profits and disappointing album sales forced Sinatra to sell two-thirds of his stake to Warner Brothers. The imprint continued successfully throughout the Sixties and Seventies, reinventing itself as a rock label with the likes of Frank Zappa, Joni Mitchell and Neil Young. The legacy of Reprise lies not only in the music but in higher royalty rates and the label’s far-sighted policy of reversion of rights to the artist – which means, ironically, that reissues of many classic albums, including Sinatra’s, no longer appear on the label. Modern acts still flourish on the Reprise labels, including Josh Groban, Enya, Tom Petty, David Foster, Michael Buble, Eric Clapton and Michael Franks.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

From this compilation, one can tell that Reprise label is more than just Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. There are many rare gems, like Nancy Sinatra, Danny Kaye, Aki Aleong and Lou Monte. This set is recommended for all music lovers…like Nancy Sinatra’s song title ”Like I Do” too.

There are 60 tracks on this Reprise Records retrospective covering 1960 to 1962. The sound quality is excellent throughout. There are informative liner notes by Michael Heatley and each track has the original record number. This set provides a musical picture of the label. There are tracks from the founder Frank Sinatra & his friends as well as jazz; R&B; instrumentals & pop releases. CD1 runs for 49.11 and has 4 middle of the road tracks and 16 of the day. CD2 runs for 50.24 and likewise has 4 and 16. CD3 runs for 52.22 and has 5 middle of the road and 15 pop. All of these label retrospective collections are great fun andyoumay remember some of the pop artists and yet it is the old timers who lasted longest. Nicely packaged in slimline gatefold with 12 small b&w photographs of artists. Pricewise a bargain. Look out for more sets like this on the One Day Music label.

Goody Goody is a three CD box set containing 60 tracks.
All are original tracks by the original artists so you are getting a whole lot of music for a really great price.

It is on 3 CDS BUT Amazon have `scrunched' all the tracks and artists together which makes it hard to see which artist is by which track and vice versa.
So I've cleaned it up and spaced it out for you.
Grab these discs while you can because next year the laws on copy write will tighten up and fall in line with the Americans (God Bless `em).
(Now all we need to do is for them to stop putting region 2 on UK DVD releases to compensate?)

If you are cutting and pasting ignore the last track on CD3
