A nice overview with a lot of photos and some information. Good for scale modellers and for all with historic interests.

..A new P&S book that sounded quite interesting for Luftwaffe fans. However any review must of necessity be short and not very sweet. Firstly, I have rarely seen such appallingly bad photo reproduction ! I noticed at least one image printed twice. This is basically a photo-journal with roughly two images per page with a bit of text here and there. Nothing more. There is an appendix headed 'Colour photos of Beuteflugzeugen', but no pictures, nothing..certainly none in colour ! The title is hopelessly misleading as very few of the types pictured saw "service" with the Luftwaffe, let alone flew with Balken or Hakenkreuze. At a push the best bit is the cover. Avoid I'm afraid.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting but flawed, 6 Nov 2012
This is a well illuystrated book on a fascinating subject. The photo reproductions are ok - at least in my copy- but the index contains a tantalising reference to an appendix of colour photographs which simply don't appear in the book. One or two photos are mis-identified, but there are many very interesting shots , not least the Air Wibault 100 prototype. The translation into English is a bit clunky in places, but treat it as an album of interesting photographs and you won't be disappointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written/translated, 28 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Foreign Planes in the Service of the Luftwaffe (Kindle Edition)
Poorly written or maybe translated poorly, full of suppositions and speculation. On the plus side the photographs are good and so if for no other reason, it's worth buying.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pictorial collection of foregin planes in Luftwaffe service with sketchy descriptions, 16 Sep 2013

The book is drawing a lot of criticism from the other reviewers for the relatively sketchy, high level descriptions of the use of foreign planes in Luftwaffe service, which often lack detail, proper sources and often fail to move much beyond picture captions.

Still, not all is lost. The book contains lots of pictures of foreign aircraft in Luftwaffe colours (if not necessarily on active duty service) and these are certainly of some interest to a WW2 aviation enthusiast.

What you will not get is detailed descriptions of the use of each type, from when to when it operated and in what unit (the unit information is sporadically given but it is far from complete), whether it operated in combat or was just used for type evaluation (or for another task), individual destinies of the planes in question, first hand accounts of the pilots, crew and maintenance personnel using them, the advantages & difficulties of operating them, etc. The information on the use of the planes once they were handed out / sold to the German co-belligerents is also slim to non-existent.

So if you are happy with a photo album of foreign planes in Luftwaffe colours, it may still be a good purchase at the currently low Kindle price, just as long as you do not expect much else. A final disclaimer - the book has exclusively black & white pictures - the colour section is only a title, with nothing behind it; this means that it will be difficult to use the book for modelling purposes.

This is very much the proverbial Curates Egg. Good in Parts but a bit sketchy on the real Details.Interesting if found at a Bargain Price.

Interesting collection of photographs, but text limited in detail. An unusual perspective on the development of fascist airpower during ww2

i would have liked a lot more written information as to the subsequent fates of these aircraft, but apart from that it was alright.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Very Interesting book, 9 Feb 2014

This review is from: Foreign Planes in the Service of the Luftwaffe (Kindle Edition)
This book of great interest because it includes many previously unpublished photos of captured aircraft. If you are interested in this subject this is the book for you. My only criticism of the book is that the photos are only in black and white although reference is made to the colours of different aircraft. Also, it is evident that the book is translated from French as the grammar is of French construction in several instances, but is still understandable.
It would be suitable for modelmakers looking for unusual subjects.
