Beware the laughable scottish accent!
on 11 July 2013
Well there is good and bad about this book. It's a captiving storyline which is dark and for the most part engrossing - paricularly the first 2/3rds.
For me it falls down in a few areas. I can't not comment on Colin's Edinburgh accent. OMG it's dire. I am Edinburgh born and bred and, trust me, we DO NOT speak like that. Colin is supposedly from a well to do family so his accent would, in reality, be as far removed from the one in the book as could be. I also felt the author did not deal with a number of key issues in any depth - Angel's readustment into the world was barely touched on; what happened to her fellow captives (her supposed friends).... Angel didn't mention them; also there is nothing but passing comments on her relationship with her captor and I feel the storyline would have benefited from a more indepth investigation of this.
All in all I felt the ending was too rushed and abrupt. I did not particularly finish reading the book with any great sense of understanding the characters.
Arggh and the accent, well nails on a chalk board.....ouch!
