This review is from: Warne Marsh (International Release) (Audio CD)
Tenor saxophonist Warne Marsh(1927-1987), a disciple of the Lennie Tristano school, recorded this excellent album in New York City on December 12, 1957 & January 16, 1958 with Ronnie Ball(piano); Paul Chambers(bass) & Philly Joe Jones or Paul Motian(drums).
Marsh's oblique and sinuous tenor playing is heard on 6 tracks(2 quartets & 4 pianoless trios) with a stimulating rhythm section.
Highlights include Charlie Parker's 'Yardbird Suite' and Cole Porter's 'It's All Right With Me'.
Long unavailable in the UK this compelling album has now been reissued on WARNER's 1000 YEN series and is an ideal introduction to the overlooked Warne Marsh.
A powerful magnifying glass will be required to read Nat Hentoff's album notes.

I've always admired the bass of Paul Chambers, and he really excels on this wonderful recording of this classic album.I can't recommend it high enough.
