It's been a long time coming but well worth the wait to hear and see the concerts of the Frankie Miller band in great quality for sound and vision. This fantastic Glasgow singer has the songs and voice to carry off all 3 gigs on these DVD's even although there is a few years between the concerts.Great value for money for 2 DVD's with all 3 concerts over the 2 discs. There is also an audio version of them but this is the one to get for fans of great singers and Frankie is up there with the best.

This DVD is great value - even better if you are an old fan of Frankie Miller. There are 3 shows, 76,79 and 82. Rory gallagher fans will recognise the format -the 76 show is in front of a subdued audience -and the band plays great but struggles to fire up the crowd in the studio setting.

the other 2 shows are from the Rory G shows 79 and 82 where Frankie's Band were the support act.

The songs and the band are great -- not too much repetition of sets either.

Frankie never made it to the 1st division popularity of peers like Paul Rodgers, Rod Stewart ,Robert Palmer, Joe Cocker -- but he was a great rock and soul belter - had fine songs -great bands -and was a great performer .

As a Frankie fan -I was smiling when I watched these great shows, if you are not a Frankie fan you might not get as much out of these shows as I did - but you will get some good ideas for your pub rock repertoire!

Bargain!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Yank's Review - Incendiary !, 2 Sep 2013

This review is from: Live At Rockpalast [DVD] [2013] (DVD)
So, Having collected all Frankie Miller's albums by mail from across the pond since the 70's I just couldn't wait to finally get a look at 'im. WOW ! The '76 & '79 shows are incendiary and the '82 show is a little more reserved while still totally excellent! The in-between song communication from Miller is quite interesting too. If I'm getting it right the crowd in '76 is sitting silent and Miller is funny trying to get a reaction out of them. I think the '79 crowd is chanting for the headliner as he begins because at one point he says "He probably hasn't even left the hotel yet." He then plows through a set that had the crowd cheering and calling him back for encores. Now, after a lifetime of reading the British music press I know you folks can be hard on your musicians and you might think my review bollocks. Well, it's just my opinion mate, don't get your knickers in a twist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fantastic. Followed Frankie since the mid 70's but only ..., 19 Sep 2014

Absolutely Fantastic.

Followed Frankie since the mid 70's but only saw him once in Newcastle UK in 1978, For me Frankie is along side my other fave singer Paul Rodgers of Free. The 1976 concert here is wonderful. OK the crowd are very quiet but they do applause the band after each song. Frankie's chatter between songs and during them is wonderful and he tries to get close to the crowd. One lovely bit in the middle section of Drunken Nights in the City he slows it down and Frankie slowly scans the crowd and says "I want to hear some noise" no response. then he says, "Does anyone drink here?" no response, then he references to the crowd as Jehovas Witnesses, no response and the wonderful smile and he says to himself " Ah well, nee bother" absolutely fantastic as this quiet crowd does not put him off. After "Drunken Nights" his band come on and he launches into Brickyard Blues with his voice on fine fine form. The rest of the video is all great lovely stuff . This is highly highly recommended 5 star for me.
Frankie's health suffered in the last 20 years but he is a fighter and is still writing great songs which his friend Spike from the Quireboys will release next week called 100% Frankie Miller. We may not hear again Frankies voice on new records, but his wonderful vocals and songs can be heard on the remastered CD's from his albums of the 70's.
