5.0 out of 5 stars Their best since "mental funeral"
Autopsy is a unique case in the metal world . Their style is supposedly death metal yet they differ completely from what we usually call death metal. More of the same with this latest Autopsy offering. Nothing new but it does what it says on the tin.

Autopsy is a unique case in the metal world . Their style is supposedly death metal yet they differ completely from what we usually call death metal. They started their career with 2 fantastic albums , with "mental funeral" being possibly the scariest metal album ever and then they started sounding silly with small , almost hardcore, songs in "acts of the unspeakable" before completely turning into a joke with "shitfun" .
Thankfully with their reunion they have returned to the style of their first 2 albums with big songs , many doomy parts and fantastic solos . "Macabre eternal" was a fantastic return to form and "the headless ritual" is even better. With a heavier production and the usual fantastic musicianship from this band they deliver . What I love in this band is that behind their horror image and extreme lyrics you have a band with fantastic musicians . Reifert is a great drummer and a unique singer and their guitarists can play extremely well with really atmospheric solos .
Autopsy is not for everyone , even for death metal fans since their style is quite different to the usual death metal sound but for their fans this reunion has been a blessing . Now I can't wait for their next album which is coming out shortly !!!

This is just as good as Macabre Eternal... Some fast tracks and few fantastic slow moments, vocals again are unique for this genre, demented growls, howls and snarls not the usual growl fest throughout the whole album but a lively mixture, organic production is also fantastic in making this brew authentically old-School Death Metal

Highly recommend this

OLD SCHOOL!!! This album will tear you a new one in the best possible way! If you've never heard of Autopsy then shame on you, they're hands down one of the most influential bands from the original days of of the Death Metal scene. Nightmarishly grim and fast as hell Autopsy have always been untouchable, quite simply they sound like Autopsy, and that's why they are immense.

The heartfelt rawness of the playing is what's always drawn me to them, ever since I first heard "Mental Funeral" as a 14 year old I was sold, and in 20 odd years refreshing to see that Autopsy haven't changed they've just got better... And whilst "Mental Funeral" will always be a classic of that period, "Headless Ritual" proves that some bands will always just show you how it's done, easily in my top 5 of 2013. You'll head bang and air guitar like you're a kid again!
