5.0 out of 5 stars "NEVER AGAIN!"
Among the multitude of books written about The Holocaust, this account by Ziama Trubakov, must rank as one of the most moving and the most painful. The author must be warmly congratulated on his recall of those dreadful events whose very existence has been called into doubt by some persons.

Not a pleasant book to read ... not an easy book to read ... not a particularly well written book. It is one man's detailed first hand memories of the cruelty and the brutal atrocities carried out by Nazis at Babi Yar, Kiev, during the German occupation of that city in WW2. It tells of the uncivilised programme of mass killing which took place there and using slave labour, the efforts to burn and destroy the remains of over one hundred thousand people, before the Red Army returned. The author, a Jew, who was a prisoner in the camp records his story for history, afraid that without his testimony no-one could imagine the horror of Babi Yar.
If you have a tender disposition or dislike unpleasant stories, do not read this book.

He writes in a simple, clear style, peppered with touches of humour in moments of nigh incredible squalor, disease and sheer evil in (?) human form.
I cannot recommend this book too highly, another brick in the wall of memory.

ANOTHER PRIME EXAMPLE OF MANS INHUMANITY TO MAN.
IV'E READ STORIES WHERE SOME OF THE EXECUTIONERS
OF THESE ATROCITIES BECAME SO DISTURBED THAT MANY
COMMITED SUICIDE.
I GAVE IT 3 STARS BECAUSE TO GIVE IT FOUR WOULD MEAN
I LIKED IT AND IT'S VERY HARD TO SEE HOW YOU COULD
LIKE THIS BOOK.

You do not read this book for entertainment as it describes the every day slaughter in the camp. Human life meant nothing, a workforce to do a job, replacements were easy to come by.This should be read by each generation, because as the decades pass, survivors fade away and we lose the first hand account of these atrocity's. It still defies belief the way these people endured the threat of execution, while singing doing forced labour. In the midst of all this the human spirit still found a way to gather implements to assist an escape. When you think of it, mankind is finding new ways to kill each other.

This is a very unusual and difficult book to read. Only someone devoid of compassion could not be moved to tears by this horror story. Mr Trubakov writes so well about such atrocities it does make a compulsive read but I had to keep taking breaks. What a truly shameful part of history this was. Man can be so depraved and evil it turns my blood cold and breaks my heart

I don't think this writer needs to worry about these new and young up and coming writers that write rubbish, we always have to have good and bad people in the world and we all know who they are. This was a great read as usual from a very sad time, I hope this writer lives to 120

Thoroughly recommend this book to anyone looking for an informative and thought provoking true story of one man's experience of the Holocaust and the Nazis' occupation of Kiev. Couldn't put it down.
