I bought this as I have more money than sense sometimes - having used the little quadcopters you can buy on Amazon / in Maplin, etc., I decided to move up to a this machine. My wife was extremely skeptical (I didn't tell her just now much it cost) and then I added some new bits & pieces from a specialist Drone shop (i-Drone dot me). They were extremely helpful and sold me some nice little feet for the Drone (to lift it up a bit and protect the feet / motors on hard landing) plus some upgraded bearings, etc., also an ARTX carry case which is excellent.

Can easily sling the whole thing over my shoulder when going out for a walk, together with my three batteries, and can then send it off flying once I'm up on the Ridgeway or in a field. Very tentatively at first as I didn't trust myself, however within a week or two I was flinging the thing all over the sky, taking it up to 80 metres plus and increasing my lateral speed - these things shift! My wife also enjoys this and I've got her to fly it as well - used to use my iPad mini but quite frankly, it is just as easy with an iPhone / Android phone.

All in all, great fun and more of a hobby than a toy. But costs do climb as you will eventually want to add more bits to it. Get yourself a proper 'tool kit' as this is essential, also a few spare gears and spindles. But with a bit of common sense, you will have a great deal of fun with this.

Excellent excellent excellent. Bought it for my 11 year old son after constant pleading! Thought it would be a waste of cash and that I would have I pick up my son's disappointment but far from it. Excellent camera quality and really easy to use. Need a big open space to get true enjoyment out of this and not to be used in wind over 10mph I would guess. Son just has not stopped playing with it and his mates love it as well. Worth the £310 paid.

Brilliant performance for modest outlay. easy to use and superb picture quality. Power edition necessary because of short battery life.

The drone itself is a great fun device, but potential purchasers should be under no illusions that, without extensive and expensive modification, this is a toy and nothing more.

The main limiting factor is the control range. Parrot claim 30m, but this very much depends on the controlling device and the orientation of the drone. 20m is more realistic in most circumstances. Another issue is the signal strength varies with the orientation of the drone, turn it and you can lose the signal.

Another problem is the poor support offered by Parrot, particularly for Android users. The Android control app (FreeFlight) is a version behind the iOS app and does not offer "director" mode. The smoothness with which the drone can be controlled by the app is also much worse than the iOS version. There is a 3rd party app called AR.Pro, which is far superior, indicating that the issue is with Parrot's poor Android developers and not with the Drone or Android.

In short the AR Drone 2.0 is a decent piece of kit for the price, but, in no way, comes close to being useful as anything other than a fun toy.

This is the second drone that i have had, the first one wouldn't take off as there was a fault with it, i phoned parrot uk who told me to return it to amazon, who arranged a replacement by overnight courier at their expense, hats off to amazon. The second drone works perfectly, very simple controls for flying as there is the built in stability control, all you do is take you fingers off the screen control and the drone hovers on the spot, unfortunately this just made me a bit over confident and didn't stop me hitting a branch and crashing it on the tarmac from 20 feet and breaking the centre cross, a motor, cog and pin. I ordered the replacement parts, all reasonably priced, and delivered quickly. The repair was straight forward if a bit fiddly due to how small the parts are. The drone is now as good as new and i now keep away from trees. If anyone has trouble flying or repairing their drone, look on you tube as there are videos covering everything you will ever need to know.

So I got my ar parrot 2.0 power edition just in time for the weekend. What can I say but if you are looking at upgrading your drone this is a perfect jump. The power edition does cost a little more but you get 3 extra sets of coloured blades (I changed my ones to the blue) and 2 x 1500 battery. The good thing with this is you get at least 30min fly time. I'm running ar freeflight app off the Microsoft Surface 2 R/T so anyone else out there with this system be assured it works fine. Don't think you get the GPS option with Ms version but I'm not to fussed. There are still the options to record your flight and take pictures. The control of the drone is very good you get all the features to change how quick you wish the drone to respond.
The only time I have had a problem was when the drone lost control during a turn. I removed my fingers of the surface controls expecting it to return to hover mode but it continued on its path. Lucky I was in a large open area but I had to hit the emergency button. The drone cut all power and crashed hitting the ground and rolling 3 to 4 times. I was expecting to see a very broken ar due to the impact it took. But to my amazement there was not a mark on it with all blades and gears in place and the body was undamaged. I reset the drone and continued flying.
The other this to remember is don't fly this drone in dusk or dark conditions. The camera under the body that keeps it stable can't see the ground thus the drone can't auto hover. Not good if your in a confined space. All in all this is a great item. Order it today.

This is so cool and so stable but can be hard at first to fly but it is easy to get the hang of it. the indoor hull breaks really easly so make sure to buy a spare or two.

IF you've never used or seen a drone before, this product will amaze you for sure. What I love about it the most is how easily you can fly it indoors even in rather small rooms. The absolute control mode is also amazing, especially for flying in high altitudes, nut unfortunately doesn't work most of the time for some reason.

On the flip side, it's light weight and limited range make it a real adventure (not necessarily in the pleasant sense) trying to flight it outdoors in anything but an open and flat field. When you become better at controlling it ( I recommend using the joypad mode rather than device tilting) and if you add a range extender it can actually do some decent videos even in rougher conditions (on the beach or on a mountain for instance) provided of course that there is no wind more than 2-3mph because if your device gets drifted away by a gust at high altitude (i like sending mine above 300ft) it is likely you will never see it again .

The batteries, even in the power edition, remain a problem and the replacing parts cost more than they should and the GPS add-on is a real piece of crap (see my separate review on it).

In light of all this, I recommend this product to beginners, kids, or consumers with tither budgets. Otherwise, at the time of this review, I would recommend going for the DJI Phantom 2 Vision which is simply amazing for outdoor flying. Keep in mind it is 3-4 times the pricetag of the AR 2.0 drone but in my opinion well worth the money. Keeping the AR 2.0 for indoor flights mostly. Expect Parrot to come up with a new drone this year which should bring the awaited improvements. It really needs to be heavier and host a bigger battery.

This is my first drone and can recommend them to anybody, The Power Edition has a longer flight time of 37 minutes but beware this is attached by using two different batteries and not continuous flight which is slightly misleading. My order was processed very fast and delivery very quick so would recommend.

Much more stable and flyable than many other quads. Works indoors in a large space, you need a big room otherwise its like being in the middle of a hurricane.

Outdoors it works well but doesn't have a great range.

Nice toy, thats about it.
