rangers stage one complete 2012/2013
on 8 September 2013
I like reading reviews of movies or music. I like to hear what people think of a particular film, and if they saw it as i saw it. Maybe their view will help me decide whether to buy a movie or not.
The big problem with a football review is that far too many people use it as a forum to talk about the team on the dvd ( often slagging them off because they are not fans ) but not the dvd itself....in other words, when we're reading a season review, we all know what the movie is, but what we don't know is..IS THE DVD ANY FLIPPING GOOD ? and when we don't find out its annoying
So lets have a PROPER review of this dvd since the last season highlights from rangers left a lot to be desired....and lets keep it simple
First of all we have a background to the rangers saga...does'nt ramble on too long but we get the picture of how the team ended up where they were.
Pretty much all the season highlights are featured including the ramsden cup but not the scottish cup except in still frame form. Maybe copyright was involved here...don't know, doesn't matter.
All the goals are shown from rangers as well as opposition ones....not all it has to be said but enough so you don't notice too much, although, as there were quite a few high scoring encounters in the league campaign it would have been nice to have shown the complete package from these games.
Lots of interviews including the fans ( supporters feature a fare bit in this program which is nice ) Not a word spoken from Mr Green though.
Also included are highlights from the youth and reserve teams as well as the Glasgow cup final win over celtic ( did'nt show the celtic goal even though the commentary mentions it...annoying )
But what about the most important factor...PICTURE QUALITY...as i said, the last dvd was wrecked by this and left me wondering if i needed an eye test...no problem with this dvd, but it has to be said that the quality does vary from game to game, with alot of it from rangers tv ( including commentary ) and a wide angled camera view of the pitch so you have to concentrate on the action or you will at times lose track of the ball going in the net ( not every game has the wide shot )
But in general the picture is ok, or at least you are not screwing you eyes up.
However, two games highlighted that do stand out for being very bad quality are against motherwell and very strange, the final match at home to berwick. The latter in particular looks like old video footage from the 90's and filmed off a tv set....this, more than anything else spoils the dvd as it was the game in which the trophy was presented so i have no idear what was going on with that coverage....a great shame.
So thats the review, i think 3 stars is about right...although i'm tempted to put 4, but because there are a few little niggles ive settled for 3 (3.5 is more accurate)
It is a good enough dvd however and well worth a buy.
Not the best from rangers, but not the worst by any means, no way !!
