4.0 out of 5 stars Old Habits die Hard, Right Norman...
"Psycho III" picks up where part II ended. The opening scenes are beautifully lensed & can capture the attention of the audience easily. A plus in this entry is that Anthony Perkins directed this film. It shows that he really knows the character of Norman Bates Inside Out. The Music is rather different this time, we don't get that creepy B. Hermann...

3.0 out of 5 stars Mother's back..... again!
It was obvious that a second sequel to Hitchcock's masterpiece, Psycho, would never live up to expectations. But, surprisingly, Psycho III doesn't *completely* ruin what must be one of the most famous horror movies of all time. Anthony Perkins is, as always, brilliant as Norman Bates- he also makes a directional debut in this film and does rather well.
Ok- so, NO...

Hermann soundtrack, but still it's effective. The "Telephone Booth" sequence is as good as the "Shower Sequence" in the original "PSYCHO". A thing that brings this great film down to 4 stars is that it enters into that Slasher film territory, something that Psycho never was. All together Psycho III is as good as Parts II & IV... Don't miss it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Mother's off her Rocker again, 7 Nov 2003
This review is from: Psycho 3 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Like the second film this is not bad at all, the film carries on from where the second left off.Anthony Perkins is back again in his superb role as Norman Bates who is Living in his Motel with his so called Mother.
Still not as good as the first it can still be treated fairly.
I can not wait for the 4th film to arrive cause I only ordered it a couple of days ago.
Hopefully I will be impressed.

Ok- so, NO sequel or (shudder) remake could ever better Hitchcock's Psycho, but this one does pretty well with a nice helping of hideously blac humour thrown in for good measure. :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars THE MOST SHOCKING OF THEM ALL!, 19 Jan 2009

THATS WHAT IT SAYS ON THE COVER-AND ITS RIGHT!THE OTHER REVIEWS HAVE COVERED ALL THE POINTS,BUT JUST TO ADD-ANTHONY PERKINS IS ON TOP FORM AS ALWAYS WHEN IT COMES TO THIS CHARACTER.WHO KNOWS THE CHARACTER BETTER THAN HIM?...AND SO IT WAS EXCITING AT THE TIME TO SEE HE WAS ALSO DIRECTING-AND AN EXCELLENT JOB I THOUGHT.THIS MOVIE HELD MY ATTENTION ALL THE WAY THROUGH-AND COVERS EVERY ASPECT OF THE CHARACTER-THE TORMENT,VULNERABILITY AND KINDNESS HE CAN SHOW-AS WELL AS THE SHOCKING FEAT OF STEALING A KISS IN THE MOONLIGHT...WITH A DEAD GIRLS BODY "MOTHER" HAS KILLED!
JEFF FAHEY IS EXCELLENT HERE IN A SUPPORTING ROLE.HELP IS NEEDED TO WORK THE DESK OF THE BATES MOTEL DURING THE DAY AS NORMAN"PREFERS THE NIGHTS"WHEN JEFF TELLS NORMAN"ILL GLADLY FILL IN TILL YOU CAN FIND A PERMANENT REPLACEMENT-I JUS WONT BE STICKING AROUND IS ALL"-NORMAN REPLIES"NO ONE EVER DOES."
THERES ALSO A HYSTERICAL SCENE INVOLVING JEFF AND HIS GIRLFRIEND IN HIS ROOM.
THIS REALLY IS AN EXCELLENT FILM-I FIRST SAW IT IN 1994-I WATCHED IT AGAIN THE OTHER DAY AND I STILL LOVE IT.
ANOTHER REVIEWER STATED THIS FILM VENTURED INTO THE SLASHER TERRITORY SOMETHING THE ORIGINAL PSYCHO WAS-I THINK ITS UNFAIR TO COMPARE THIS.IT WAS MADE IN A DIFFERENT ERA AND ISNT TRYING TO BE LIKE THE 1ST-IT DEFINETELY ISNT A SLASHER FILM THOUGH AS THERE ARE ONLY A FEW DEATHS-NOT LIKE A FRIDAY THE 13TH.
SADLY ANTHONY PERKINS ISNT ALIVE ANYMORE-BUT HIS MEMORY LIVES ON IN HIS WORK-AND IN MY OPINION-THIS IS HIS BEST
