5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, stupendous, sublime etc . . . you get the idea!, 15 Jun. 2005
This review is from: Mass in F Minor (Audio CD)
I first heard Kyrie Eleison on the Easy Rider soundtrack and immediately knew that I had to hear more. Initially disappointed as their earlier albums are rather substandard American Pshycadelic rock, I finally found a reissue of this on Vinyl and was absolutletly amazed. Simply put it is one of the most remarkable collections of music I have ever heard.
In this album producter and writer David Axelrod sets out to blend traditional Catholic masses with a jazzy and loose take on psychadelic rock. Mixing heavily modal melodies and harmonies with spikey and often pleasantly dissonant guitars Axelrod conjures a seemless belend betwen the old and new.
Just listen to the sample tracks, and if you like them then buy the album. Short as it is ( approx 30 mins ) it does not let up for one second and is one of the few albums I have heard which from start to end does not have one weak point, and upon first listening leaves you breathless.

4.0 out of 5 stars One Of It's Kind, Other Bands Tried To Emulate Without Success., 3 Feb. 2012

My CD is on the Linea Record Label from 1990 and contains the 6 original tracks, coming in at just 26 minutes.
Kyrie Eleison is the best known song, featured on the Easy Rider film soundtrack, and it's the best.
All sung in Latin, all in the late 1960s West Coast style and I certainly have no difficulty recommending it whether one is a Christian believer or not.

A real blast from the past. This incarnation of the Prunes not to be confused with the 1960s psychedelic version.Axelrod brought a new twist to ecclesiastical music in this incarnation of the band. This album is Marmite music-love it or hate it!I love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars 70's psychedelia at its finest and some damn good music to boot, 16 Aug. 2014

This review is from: Mass in F Minor (MP3 Download)
70's psychedelia at its finest and some damn good music to boot. The only reason I do not give it a 5 is because I never do - the implication being that there is no room for improvement and that is never ever the case.
