4.0 out of 5 stars Delbert and Glen back together again and rockin'
Apparently Delbert McClinton made his recording debut back in the early 70s in a duo with his fellow Texan pianist Glen Clark and this record sees them reunited for a record which blends R&B, country, blues and rock 'n' roll with humor and the virtuosity of seasoned musicians who have spent nearly 50 years on the road. I am a long time Delbert fan but on this record time seems to have caught up with him. Songs are as good as usual but that distinctive voice is losing its tone and power. The record sounds like a demo

The record was produced by McClinton, Clark and Delbert's songwriting partner Gary Nicholson and features members of McClinton's touring band as well as drummer Tom Hambridge, Kevin McKendree on keyboards and Anson Funderburgh, who contributes fabulous blues guitar to "Oughta know," a song written by McClinton's son Clay.

The album gets off to a great start with the rockin' "Been around a long time" and "World of hurt" is Glen's song that was recorded by John Mayall and contains Delbert's distinctive harmonica playing. The duo's natural sound seems to be an easy rolling honky-tonkin' as in "There's been peace in the valley" but they can also do some nice ballads such as "Just when I need you the most". Everything here is pretty laid back but they can also dig in when needed but these guys obviously don't need to try too hard to produce great music.

Although probably none but a select few were exactly salivating for a new album by Delbert McClinton & Glen Clark album (they last recorded together over forty years ago), 'Blind Crippled & Crazy' is well worth the wait. True, there's no dazzling originality, or indeed, real surprises on offer here, but what is herein are a matchless shuffling of musical styles, from gutbucket blues through to easy-rolling honky tonkin'. It's an unalloyed joy throughout, two geezers whose collective ages probably add up to over one hundred and fifty, but a rich wellspring of good, good music to draw upon. If Van Morrison had just stuck to R&B and dabbled more in Country, then decamped to Texas, he'd sound like this!

It's taken 40 years for Delbert and Glen to record together again but it's been worth waiting for . They are both in good voice althought both in their 70's now ,giving a mix of road house blues with a country tinge with the occassional ballad thrown in for good measure . Both have served Texas music well over the years and this CD adds to their reputations as masters of the genre. Just buy it and enjoy -you will not be wasting your time or your money !

I've been a big Delbert fan for decades, got all his stuff, solo and with others, this I think is his second album with Glen Clark ( the other is good too) so you get exactly what you expect from a pair of superb artists.
