This is an unheralded little gem, arriving on these shores with no publicity worth mentioning. It's by no means a classic but has a certain style and a quirky take on the done to death cycle of teen vamp efforts. This one concerns a close knit group of friends at a boarding school or college whose relationships are tested by the arrival of a charismatic new girl. One especially jealous young lady , begins to obsess that the newbie is in fact a vampire like in the literary Gothics she is studying in class.
Lilly Cole has a strange aloof presence that is perfect for the role of Ernessa, too bad this is unlikely to score her more movie roles. What impressed me most was that in the slender running time was a palpable sense of teen jealousy and sexual frustration, and emotional immaturity that never came across in the vapid, dull Twilight 'epics'.
To be fair all of the acting and production values were above average, despite the moderate budget and the lack of well-known names in the cast.
I will say that the pace of the film may seem a bit too leisurely for some and there is no overly explicit violence or sex, though it does manage to be genuinely erotic at times.
With this in mind , you may enjoy a subtle and moody film, that may not set the world alight but you may fall for its odd cultish charm.
The two negative reviews here are a shame to drag the overall rating down because they have nothing to do with the movie itself and more about people buying a disc their machine is not compatible for. People really still do this.

Director Mary Harron has crafted a great little psychological thriller here with an intelligent twist on the vampire theme.
Fresh faced Sarah Bolger; a troubled teen, returns to her all girls boarding school looking forward to reuniting with her bff Lucy. All is going well until Lily Cole's new girl Ernessa is introduced to the dorm. Straight away she targets Lucy and cracks begin to appear in her relationship with Bolger's character Rebecca. Is it just teen jealousy or does Ernessa have a more sinister motive? Why does she go out at night on her own and not appear to eat anything? When girls begin to die Rebecca begins to realise that Ernessa may be more than just the new girl.
The cast all give a good account of themselves and Lily Cole is almost unworldly as the new girl.
This is not a long film at an hour and twenty minutes but its definitely worth watching, the story twists and turns with little reliance on special effects as is so common nowadays.

Getting through this film was hard work. The script is appalling (characters insist on spelling things out for the viewer even though it is often obvious and don't talk like teenagers) I didn't care about any of the characters. The scenes chop and change so quickly you have no idea of time scale and whilst the setting is beautiful, the school is ridiculous; there only seem to be two teachers in the whole place, the students have no problems going in or out, several don't eat ever and no one notices/does anything about it and drugs are frequently used. There is a LOT of this movie that could be cut out and it wouldn't make any difference to the story. Really poorly executed.

The stunning Sarah Bolger and Lily Cole in the same dvd, this is enough to make anyone buy it. Its based in a private school, and there is a psycho girl/ ghost who seems to kill or infect any one she sees. Seriously scary stuff, but well worth a watch because of the babes.

Lightweight horror but still a very enjoyable film with a decent cast. I enjoyed the film. Lily Cole gives a very weird performance
