Let's help this one out a bit...
on 2 October 2013
This is an unheralded little gem, arriving on these shores with no publicity worth mentioning. It's by no means a classic but has a certain style and a quirky take on the done to death cycle of teen vamp efforts. This one concerns a close knit group of friends at a boarding school or college whose relationships are tested by the arrival of a charismatic new girl. One especially jealous young lady , begins to obsess that the newbie is in fact a vampire like in the literary Gothics she is studying in class.
Lilly Cole has a strange aloof presence that is perfect for the role of Ernessa, too bad this is unlikely to score her more movie roles. What impressed me most was that in the slender running time was a palpable sense of teen jealousy and sexual frustration, and emotional immaturity that never came across in the vapid, dull Twilight 'epics'.
To be fair all of the acting and production values were above average, despite the moderate budget and the lack of well-known names in the cast.
I will say that the pace of the film may seem a bit too leisurely for some and there is no overly explicit violence or sex, though it does manage to be genuinely erotic at times.
With this in mind , you may enjoy a subtle and moody film, that may not set the world alight but you may fall for its odd cultish charm.
The two negative reviews here are a shame to drag the overall rating down because they have nothing to do with the movie itself and more about people buying a disc their machine is not compatible for. People really still do this.
