5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent reading
A very good read, similar to Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson.
More true to life and full of cricketing mores.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very Dated
I quite like old fashioned stoytelling, but the tales here are unconvincing with poor story lines. I have not bothered to read all of the stories.

I really do like the Raffles stories and in many ways they are perfect for the Kindle. The short stories really lend themselves to reading while travelling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Total fantasy and I love it, 28 July 2013

I first came across Raffles on the radio many years ago, played by the delightful Anthony Valentine, whose voice could seduce with no problem and I was almost reluctant to read the original but I was not disappointed. The idea of a upper class burglar defeating the police and homeowners repeatedly is very silly but it is easy to lose yourself among the streets of 1920's London. The time of dressing for dinner and gay young things being rich and restless youngsters. Raffles is as good a cricketer as a burglar but the cricket is a background so nothing takes away from the dirt deeds in stately homes. This world is gone but can be recaptured through thses stories.

Old fashion burglary stories. Made to seem right by the Jeeves and Wooster type characters. Good, I've read a few of them before.
