5.0 out of 5 stars A fitting Finale to the Roman trilogy
Another excellent story told with remarkable skill, bringing a quite brutal era in ancient Briton alive. As with Roman 1 & 11 the plot follows the lives Prydain and Cassus to a fitting finale. The graphic, brilliantly penned battle scenes and detail of everyday life transport you back 2000 years to the days of Boudiccia. A real page turner and another excellent read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good
Just as gripping as the first two .It was good to learn about an important character in British history that I had never known about before .I did get a bit bored half way through this one though ,endless slaughter and less story telling, the plot was a bit thin compared to the first two in the series ,I would still recommend it .

The final book in the trilogy is superb. It takes us through an extremely critical time of Britain's history. Boudicca is portrayed perfectly as are the author's other characters and he makes the whole era come alive. The fate of the characters Prydain and Marcus run parallel throughout the story until the exceptionally well crafted denouement. All of the threads in this story, cleverly created in Roman I and II, finally come together amidst one of the bloodiest times in the history of Ancient Briton. Like all of his books this is a real page turner and a thoroughly superb read.
As usually the author's historical research is as impeccable as his writing.

1.0 out of 5 stars An excellent trilogy, 27 Dec 2013

Mr Ashman has woven a very believable story around strong characters set in a historically accurate time frame. The dialogue between the main characters in the Roman legions is particularly well written, the only complaint is the lack of maps showing the locations of the British tribes and the route of Boudica's march. Try to watch the TV programme presented by the Snow's on Boudica's defeat, it will help to visualise the descriptions in the book. I hope there will be more to come from Mr Ashman on Roman Britain.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best of the three books, 2 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)

The book was good but it was really about Boudicca and her war with Rome. The characters from the previous two books in the trilogy were a minor part. Not a bar read though.
