4.0 out of 5 stars French Noir with a British flavor!
This would have been so much better if done in French with subtitles. As it is not I feel this misses the mark, but clearly it will have an appeal to fans of Police procedurals based in Paris. Using Jill Hennessy (Crossing Jordan) as a Nun (really?) does little other than to add her name to the cast to make it saleable in Canada.
If there is a Season 2 let us hope it...

3.0 out of 5 stars Jean Reno does his (very good) best
This should have been a great series. Jean Reno is, as ever in his roles, excellent. He is absolutely credible as the beat-up old cop, who has seen it all and is good at his job, but severely flawed by drink and drugs and iffy friends. The story lines are pretty good too, if somewhat far-fetched a lot of the time. The sets are good. But, and it is a BIG but, the co-stars...

Poor casting, apart from Jean Reno, and unconvincing plots. I watched the first episode and then relegated the set to the boxes I reserve for when I've watched everything else and am desperate. Long may it languish there...

1.0 out of 5 stars A Proper Turkey - And It's Not Even Christmas!!, 17 Aug 2013

I read a review of this series - which I had never heard of before - recently, on DVDBeaver, and rather fancied it. Big mistake.
The law of averages says that if one continues to buy TV series on digital media as a blind buy, sooner or later you'll get burned.
Well - guess what?
I can only conclude, having watched [ 'endured' would be a more appropriate term, actually ] 6 of the 8 episodes of this drivel, that that great French actor Jean Reno must be in some sort of financial trouble, requiring a quick solution - because this is the nadir of his career by no small margin, and he can only [ surely ] have committed to this garbage for the paycheque.
This is set in Paris, about an 'elite' squad of homicide detectives/forensic scientists, who are tasked with solving difficult murders in the capital.
But here's the thing - they all [ well, all but one of them {Reno} ] speak with American accents.
This is hardly surprising, as they are all [ well, not quite all {see below!}] American 'actors'.
No explanation is given for this in episode 1 - nothing, nowt, zida. Zilch.
You are expected, presumably, to just accept that a group of Americans are running a special unit of detection inside the Surete, with the French state's blessing - or, is it that Fox, which commissioned this series, wanted to make a show for their U.S audience set in exotic Paris, that didn't require their hick viewers back home in the U.S. of A to have to struggle with reading those darned subtitles?...
I have to tell you that this is a WEIRD viewing experience - utterly bizarre. Terrible, unknown-to-me American supporting actors, spouting exposition-heavy dialogue, in Stateside clothing, and designer stubble, hamming their way through 45-minute individual episodes which have no relation to the next episode, in an undeniably French milieu.
When UK viewers are so accustomed these days to intelligent Continental crime drama like Spiral, Braquo and The Bridge - this rubbish is unwatchable.
And as if to add insult to already-grievous injury, each episode is populated with familiar English actors playing villains - with American accents!!!!!
Absolutely dire television.

Why did they can the second series? This was an excellent drama and the French setting made it more interesting. The characters were well done and came across as true to life.

Sorry to see that there are not going to be any more episodes, this was a well acted cop thriller. Gritty, not a pretty boy cop show.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Decent French-American Mysterious Crime/Thriller, 30 Jun 2013
This review is from: Jo [DVD] (DVD)
Its good to see that not all mystery, crime thriller's need to come out from America to be good. This French-American(ish) crime thriller is a good effort from the setting of little old Paris. Jo is something you want to get into, if you're a lover of crime, mystery, thrillers that is. It does take a few episodes to get into this, mainly due to its style but more so because of Jean Reno, I do like the guy, he's a great french actor, and in its routes the show is set in France, but in the beginning you will find it hard to understand Jean Reno's character Jo. After you get use to Jo's accsent, the show is fantastic. But by the time you enjoy this, its over. Just 8 episodes is not enough for a show this interesting.

This show's been a big hit in Europe and yet the shows original broadcaster in France cancelled it. I do hope to see a second season in the future with a better network. Fox UK?
