If you know how to mix colours , don't bother with this book
on 30 December 2013
As I learnt how to mix colours at school (and played with and mixed plasticine colours till it went muddy ! ) this book for me was a total waste of money. It is set out like a military procedure and takes the fun and the creativity out of any project . If you like reading and reading and reading, but not really doing anything, then it's for you ! It waffles on about colour wheels and shades etc but I wanted a book that shows me the techniques for making things not mixing colours. It does show you how to make some projects, but again it goes into so much detail of what colours do what, what prep is required and how to set up your colour pallet before you start, that by the time you have started you've lost interest or forgotten what the project was ! It shows some lovely pieces from other artists but again doesn't show you really how they are made .I would imagine that if you followed the instructions , as it suggests , you would have a lovely box of pretty coloured tiles in all different shades and a whopping bill for the clay (and electricity of baking it ) but not much more. Good book if you are a Complete beginner and don't know that red and yellow makes orange !
