5.0 out of 5 stars Poignant memories, 20 May 2013
This review is from: Teenage Kicks (Kindle Edition)
Teenage Kicks is a poignant reminder of how the football factory discovers, uses and discards talent. The Manchester City youth team that won the FA Youth Cup in 1986 was packed and this book traces what happened to the lads as they became men. A few went on to star in City's first team, others were dropped by the club and picked up by local lower league clubs and the rest dropped out of the game entirely due to injury or lack of talent and application.
The authors skilfully reunite the players as the men recall the shared experience of being handpicked by a top professional club and put through their paces. It is perhaps a sobering reminder that there is life after football and for the vast majority there has to be...

5.0 out of 5 stars Teenage Kicks, 6 July 2013

This review is from: Teenage Kicks (Kindle Edition)
Though this era was undoubtedly one of the less celebrated of Manchester City's era, Teenage Kicks tells the story of how their Youth team won the prestigious trophy for the first time in the club's history. Its an excellent account too, with exclusive and archive interviews. I remember the fourteen teenagers from that team, and the book is interesting in showing what happened after the glory of that Cup win.

Great overview of that charts the course of youth cup winning team of 86 which loving,y pieces the background of my formative years as a city fan.... Reminds me of the club and the trials and tribulations I used to endure as a fan which is a very different animal to the team I support today
