The front cover features Henry VIII commenting to a 'head' in a basket- 'That'll Teach you to make Lumpy Custard'!
The typical humour of Terry Deary that makes one look forward to every title and the books are SO difficult to put down!
Great for new history readers and a handy reference/revision for 'older' readers, this book covers a multitude of grotty kings and gruesome queens, from 'William the Conqueror' to 'Lizzie the Last'!
The last paragraph of the book:- 'The Royals are as useless as they ever were.....but the Brits seem to like them that way.'

I borrowed this book from my friend's 11 year old daughter and it's brilliant! I'm 48 and if they had had this kind of book when I was a kid I'd have become a historian instead of a scientist. I've got a lot more out of this book than I ever get out of anything by Simon Schama. It manages to be both highly entertaining and educational and I love the way it points out that not everything you read should be believed. Brilliant!

I like the series, they are funny and tell some of the lesser told parts of history.
One have to remember that they are written for 10-15 year old-ish.
the author have said that it is difficult not to write something wrong, because the first constants used to be considered the truth, but by the time the rest of the book had been written, those truths had been disproved.
Also a good theme in the books is that you shouldn't always believe what a historian have written, because the winner writes the history.
