Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
The game has a simple premise, but the variety of vehicles and the fact that it is easy enough to play with the younger children int eh family make this a game easy to like. The graphics aren't bad, the loading time was acceptable, and the scenarios not too repetitive. navigation could be improved, and the gameplay is simplistic enough that while fun, it's a game I expect to go to for light relief every now and again rather than sitting there engrossed for hours at a stretch.

The game includes the number '2013'; it doesn't seem to refer to the year, as this is so clunky and dated looking - perhaps it means that it was almost a quarter past eight when this stinker was first thought of. The whole thing is so dull - from the loading screen onwards: the vehicles look like toys, movement and control is regimented, visuals are primitive and mechanics of gameplay are tortuous. Incidentally, although there is onscreen help (of the unhelpful sort) detailed guidance is in a pdf - always an irritant to those without a printer. Unless you choose to take the freeplay option, the first screen is an uninspiring plan of the fire station, from which one can buy various fire equipment and furniture, assign tasks or hire/fire staff. From here the player can opt to activate the main part of the game so that missions appear, the first of which is a burning trash can - machines, men and equipment are selected to deal with it, the vehicle is dispatched and the fire fought (not as exciting as it sounds). Back home and carry on until you fall asleep from ennui. If only there was something to encourage enjoyment - but there isn't. I begin to suspect what was being burnt in that can.

In my own sad way I am an unashamed fan of Excalibur Games and I think, from the starting point of clearly a limited development budget, they've come up with some pretty good family sim games and they are actually improving all the time, and this is a good example of where they are at the moment. It's good that the content is UK/European orientated and it can at times be rather exciting, with a good choice of vehicles and scenarios. It's particularly good for younger members of the family, but it's equally good for a simple relaxing play for old codgers like me.

Excalibur may have knocked out some howlers in the past and their games are still a bit basic, but I've always admired their verve and commitment to continually improve. For under £20 I think this game is good value, and worth a try.

If like me you think you'll scream if you hear the FIFA 14 music again then Rescue 2013 could provide a little light relief.

The premiss is you're the head honcho of the fire and rescue service. You can control loads of different types of vehicles and rescue pesky civilians from burning buildings and that. I thought my son would lose interest fairly quickly but he really stuck to it and picked it up well.

For the adult the game probably isn't as entertaining for the long term but I've had a couple of goes myself and it really is quite exciting.

It has its limitations but it looks nice and has pretty addictive gameplay. Recommended.

Yet another feeble offering from Excalibur Publishing - fast becoming a computer game byword for junk.

This is another title along similar lines of their other products, using the same dud interface and game engine.

Avoid like one of the buildings on fire this game depicts.

Excalibur Publishing has supplied a varied gameplay here, with plenty of rescue vehicles, firefighters and ambulances to provide a reasonably interesting game.

The age target is the younger gamers who should enjoy taking charge of emergency vehicles and tackling a number of rescue operations from rescuing people from trapped cars to extinguishing burning buildings.

It's worth noting that the game is UK orientated rather than US, so the rescue operations involve familiar UK and European vehicles. I found the loading problematic - it takes several attempts - but once up and running it provides a good fun and reasonably interesting game with good detailed instructions in PDF format

Good for younger players.
