I heard one track on the radio and then had to hear more. Great groove with a genuine love and feel for the music. Superb.

An amazing band with new takes on old ideas. Everything surprises or enchants. A fusion of Jazz with so much more...

The Hot 8 had returned from a tour of the UK and recorded their Grammy nominated The Life & Times Of cd which is great. This follow up is however a much darker and funkier offering altogether. I love New Orleans brass bands but often studio recordings fail to capture the sheer unadulterated joy and life affirming energy of a brass marching band live. This is an excellent group of songs that really do capture the exhilarating thrill of a brass band in full effect. They along with the Soul Rebels and of course the Rebirth brass band are an experience that you should have at least once in your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart warming genuine music, 10 Jun 2013
This review is from: Tombstone (Audio CD)
`Tombstone' is a counterpoint to the straight-up party side of the band showcased on `The Life & Times Of...'. Thematically a more sombre, emotional record, it presents another chapter in the history of the Hot 8 Brass Band - a new window onto the lives, the friendships, the heartbreaks, the roots and culture of New Orleans brass music and its players. The majority of the songs are personal dedications, in memory of the four Hot 8 band members, and other musicians and dear friends, who have passed away.
