This radio really needs to be seen to be believed. It is such a versatile device. Of course it receives all the DAB stations, with great audio quality, but you can also record onto a micro SD card, both DAB and FM. Once you have made a recording, you can listen to it on the radio, or you can plug the radio into your computer and drag the files onto it, and save them. it also plays back your music files, so you can drag them onto the radio, or plug a memory card in from your phone, and use it to play your music. It is nicely packaged, comes with good quality earphones and a USB cable, so I would definitely recommend it. Kaos PDR1 Pocket Recordable Radio: DAB, DAB+, FM, Micro SD Card Slot

My husband bought me this little radio for Christmas and I was so pleased with it. However I put music on a card so that I could use the MP3 facility and although I could play the music it didn't last very long before it got stuck!! The only way to reset it is to get some small ( I used a undone paperclip) and to press the re-set button. This is not very convenient as the whole idea of me having this is to use for travelling and put on at night when I cannot sleep. All in all the radio is great but the the MP3 is terrible.

I'm afraid I can't recommend this product. As others have mentioned, it has a poor build quality and the lack of a 'lock' switch means it can switch itself on and off in your pocket annoyingly easily. The controls and interface are very fiddly, and frustrating to use.

In terms of performance, it's decidedly average. I've found the receiver sensitivity and reception quality to be perfectly fine on both DAB and FM wherever I've been with it, so that's a plus. The main reason I bought it was for the recording facility, which to be fair works reasonably well on DAB, but for some reason only records FM in a low bitrate, so it sounds 'scratchy' on playback. This may not be a big deal for your needs, but something to be aware of.

Something else that I admit is fairly niche issue, but worth highlighting for any European buyers, is that its DAB+ playback is appalling! I've tried in a few different locations in Europe (and even on a test DAB+ signal at home in the UK) and it's shocking - the audio 'jumps' and jitters (despite reception being perfect) and sounds noticeably 'slowed down' for some reason, a little like the sound of an old warped tape. I'm not sure if this is perhaps the processor struggling to keep up with the more advanced codec? Seems a big design fault if that is the case! As I say, not an issue at all in the UK - or indeed anywhere else that still uses old-style vanilla MP2 based DAB - but as most of the rest of Europe has gone (or is going) down the DAB+ route, this unit is sadly complete junk in those places, unless you just stick to FM.

Ultimately you get what you pay for, but it isn't THAT cheap. I'd spend a little more and get a good quality personal DAB radio from PURE or Roberts. This one isn't worth the aggro.

Required DAB radio for long coach trips. (Bridgwater Town Football Club) Using decent headphones this device works extremely well. Better volume and tone than my i-pod with added advantage of DAB (5 live sport) Internal rechargeable battery lasted more than EIGHT hours, at fairly high volume on a noisy coach. Micro SD recording should prove useful though in my case not essential, can pre-record my own music if required. It would be good to have a carry case to protect same, as someone else mentioned, it is easy to knock the off button by accident. I will add to this review as time passes but my initial observations are that this is very neat device at a very reasonable price. It will be interesting to read other purchaser reviews. ITEM DEVELOPED A SERIOUS FAULT IN JANUARY 2015, IE, LOCKS UP AND AM UNABLE TO CORRECT PROBLEM WITHOUT LOOSING EVERYTHING. I AM EXPERIENCING GREAT DIFFICULTY CONTACTING AMAZON OVER THIS PARTICULAR ITEM. CLICKING ON RETURNS, INFORMS ME THAT PERIOD HAS EXPIRED FOR RETURN. PURCHASED 10-08-2014, SO SHOULD STILL BE WITHIN WARRANTY PERIOD. ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET THROUGH TO AMAZON????

By today's snazzy standards this is quite a basic machine when it comes to playback and - as another reviewer has said - the ability to fast forward would improve things*. However, the main reason I wanted this machine was because of its ability to record radio programmes and this it does admirably. I can record my favourite shows and listen to them whenever I like - plus I can keep them for as long as I want. The battery life is fine for my needs though I'm not sure it's quite as long as stated in the product description - I charge it about 3 times a week and use it to record around 18 hours of radio a week and of course use it to play back recordings too. It's true what other reviewers say about the buttons being easy to accidentally press, the machine has switched itself on a couple of times when it's been in my handbag but I've had no problems with it in my coat pocket. All in all I'm really pleased with it, the reception is very good and it's very straightforward to use. *I have also found a piece of software which converts the recorded files from their MP2 format into MP3s which enables me to listen to recordings on my mobile phone and use the fast forward function on this - where there's a will there's a way!

but I've found a way around that with a piece of software that converts the files I record into MP3s which I can then play on my mobile. It's a very straightforward machine to understand and I'm really pleased with i

Small, light easy to use and good sound. I haven't found anything to fault it really. Not tried the record feature. Battery life seems good.

Only had it a few months and there are problems. Radio turns on when in the pocket or in a bag
It tunes into different stations whatever part of the country I am in.
Now I am getting no service message on the screen.
Suppose you get what you paid for.

I specifically bought this item because it combined DAB radio and MP3 player in one unit (one of only a very small number on the market). Unfortunately, both parts have their problems and other reviews have mentioned them (but I, foolishly, didn’t read the reviews in detail - so my fault).

The DAB part is desperately missing a ‘lock’ button; it’s just too easy to press a button accidentally whilst the unit is in your pocket and this can do anything from switching on/off when you don’t want it to do so to changing station or wiping out your presets.

I wanted to use the MP3 part for listening to BBC radio podcasts (typically consisting of several (dozens) of programmes of half an hour or an hour duration each). However, given that the unit cannot remember which track it was last playing (never mind where it was within that track) once it’s been switched off and back on again, it’s no good for this purpose. If I were using the MP3 part to play music and had it set to play tracks randomly, this would not be a problem; however, I really need it to start again from the point at which it was switched off, but it can’t do that unfortunately.

Considering just how much this is, I have been robbed. Please read all the other reviews everyone in there own way describe this item correctly. I think a more reasonable charge for this item should off been 4:99, I should of taken heed of the reviews and have now paid the price. Don't you do the same.
