4.0 out of 5 stars Good tips for areas that are tipically not covered by standard literature
This book is not about how to do project management in terms of documents, templates, procedures, etc. The Project Management Book is about what you should be doing as a project manager, in order to become a great project manager that delivers successful projects.

It shares lots of tips and experiences lived by the author as well as other professionals. Also,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Shows PM to be too systematic
The book that I read prior to this one was 'Will it make the boat go faster', a great engaging read and one where you just want to continue through the chapters to find out what is said next. So I go from that to this book, where I find it difficult to pick up. Whilst it contains entirely relevant and useful information, its written in a very flat, un-riveting format, and...

This book is not about how to do project management in terms of documents, templates, procedures, etc. The Project Management Book is about what you should be doing as a project manager, in order to become a great project manager that delivers successful projects.

It shares lots of tips and experiences lived by the author as well as other professionals. Also, it focuses on areas that are typically not covered by the standard literature: the human side of project management, developing relationships with your team and stakeholders, managing your project through political fights and business reorganizations, understanding the culture of an organization and how it impacts project management, etc.

3.0 out of 5 stars Shows PM to be too systematic, 27 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The book that I read prior to this one was 'Will it make the boat go faster', a great engaging read and one where you just want to continue through the chapters to find out what is said next. So I go from that to this book, where I find it difficult to pick up. Whilst it contains entirely relevant and useful information, its written in a very flat, un-riveting format, and whilst concise this uses ten words when five will do. From someone who thinks thats project management is as much about people management as anything else this book wouldn't inspire me if I was part of the project.

5.0 out of 5 stars At last - a really practical help for the project manager, 18 May 2013
This is the book to have at hand to use when you are working on projects . Well indexed and based around the sorts of things that project managers face on a regular basis . Whether it should be in a status report ,how to make your risk management more productive , or getting the best from the team,it is all here. The advice is broken up into short sections which can be read in a few minutes and are really practical. There is tons of abstract advice talking about project management but if you want to make it real then this could be the book for you.
