5.0 out of 5 stars Second Sight did wonders with this Cronenberg classic. The blu ray looks amazing!
After all these years home video has not been kind to this horror classic from David Cronenberg. Here in the states this film has not translated well onto the home video market (whether its Laserdisc, videotape or DVD) but now Second Sight has given this classic a new life. Even when I saw this at the theater when it was released, it did not look this good. Second Sight...

3.0 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY THIS DISC YET
The reason Amazon have stopped selling this at the moment is because it has errors on it that prevent access to the special features from the main menu . You can access them via the pop up menu while watching the film . Second Sight should have corrected discs available any day but unfortunately they won't be issuing replacements and you need to arrange the exchange via...

2.0 out of 5 stars Early Cronenburg, 2 Mar 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Brood [DVD] [1980] (DVD)
Early Cronenburg movie, apparently based on his own experience when breaking up from his wife. Low budget, not really scary and only for hardcore Cronenburg fans.
Plot revolves around Nola, who after the painful breakup of her marriage, seeks treatment at an experimental psychiatric clinic known as the Somafree Institute of Psychoplasmatics. While there, under the care of Dr. Raglan, the institute's founder, she is encouraged to work through her subconscious feelings of hurt and rage in a rather novel way: through bodily manifestation. Some of the clinic's patients develop grotesque sores, others cancerous growths or tumors. But Nola goes a step further. She gives "birth" to living incarnations of her darkest inner impulses. Once released, these walking ids exact gruesome revenge against Nola's family, especially her ex-husband, for every real and imagined slight that she has suffered at their hands over the course of her troubled life.

I purchased this DVD because I had heard about how scary it was when watching a TV programme. My daughter and I watched it together and to be honest we didn't find it scary at all. I really don't think I will be watching it again. Not one of my good buys!
