5.0 out of 5 stars The Mac is Back.... and how!!!
Four new songs after ten years may seem like Fleetwood Mac are underserving their enormous fanbase, but even if quantity might be on the low side, the quality is up there with the very best of their career, and this is a great way to test the water for a full-length album which will hopefully be in the works.

Melodic Mac but fairly ordinary, nothing outstanding. 5.0 out of 5 stars The Mac is Back.... and how!!!, 8 May 2013

Four new songs after ten years may seem like Fleetwood Mac are underserving their enormous fanbase, but even if quantity might be on the low side, the quality is up there with the very best of their career, and this is a great way to test the water for a full-length album which will hopefully be in the works.

Opener 'Sad Angel' finds Lindsey Buckingham at his most energetically tuneful since 'Tango in the Night', with a jangling verse that leads to an instantly sing-along chorus full of the hooks the band are so famous for. Sophisticated harmonies the way only Stevie Nicks can deliver them make this a classic addition to their canon, and as lead single could do very well indeed with enough radio play.

'Without You' is a rediscovered Stevie Nicks penned track from the Buckingham-Nicks days, and is probably the highlight of this e.p. with its restrained guitars and sublime harmonies. The lyrics are very moving indeed and it's a testament to the enduring musical, as well as romantic, relationship between Buckingham and Nicks that they should have come full circle after 40 years to produce this kind of magic.

'It Takes Time' is a real surpriser as we find Lindsey Buckingham crooning a beautiful piano ballad, an FM sound that would normally be attributed to the long-departed Christine McVie. For all its gentleness and fragility though this has a male energy to it that stops it from becoming a mere homage to the McVie sound and is a fascinating new departure for Buckingham on a Mac release.

The closer 'Miss Fantasy' finds Buckingham once more in mid-tempo pop mode with another killer chorus, but with Nicks harmonies much further in the background, which is a shame as with more Nicks sound this could have been as great as 'Sad Angel'. It's a great track, nevertheless, and brings the e.p. full circle through its mixture of sounds.

All in all this e.p. is characterised by being very much a Buckingham-led affair, and whilst all the offerings here are fantastic, it would have been nice to have heard more from Nicks, not just in the writing credits, but also in the mixes. Still, this bodes extremely well for the continued output of this band who, on this evidence, certainly have many more musical chapters to write.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fleetwood Mac, 11 Aug 2013

As a big Mac fan (pun intended), I had hoped that they would not have lost their sparkle after all of these years and I was not disappointed even though I am still mourning the retirement of the great Christine McVie. This is Mac as we like them, engaging melody and lyrics to match. Lindsay Buckingham is still writing the good stuff and the others joining in for fun. I am hoping this is only a taster to a full blown album, but if not, I am happy with what is being put out there. If you like Mac and are yearning to update your collection (this the first release since "Say You Will" back in 2003") then this is a no brainer - bright, bouncy tunes, great harmonies and no filler and even if you haven't heard them for a while, this is well worth the download. If you are reading this Lindsay, please please please speak to the band and get them back into the studio for the follow up to SYW!

5.0 out of 5 stars 3 new songs and a forgotten gem, 26 May 2014

Four fantastic new songs from Fleetwood Mac, three new songs written by Lindsey Buckingham and a forgotten gem from the BuckinghamNicks days, It Takes Time is sublime, a great (small) collection, but where's the new album?

Melodic Mac but fairly ordinary, nothing outstanding. "Sad angel" is catchy and similar in style to tracks from "Tango in the Night", Track 2 "Without You" is ordinary at best and does not suit Stevie Nicks' voice. "It Takes Time" is an uninspiring ballad while "Miss Fantasy" is the closest thing to the Fleetwood Mac we all know and love and clearly the best track on the EP.
While a reasonable buy I think it will sadly only really appeal to Mac fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Fleetwood Mac, 17 Jan 2014

The main track 'Sad Angel' is absolute classic Fleetwood Mac. Brilliant airplay on UK radio throughout May and June 2013, should have been a bigger hit. Only thing missing is Christine McVie's vocals but Lindsey and Stevie certainly give it their all. The other tracks are not bad, but it's Sad Angel that really belts it out. Cant wait until a new studio album from them.
