4.0 out of 5 stars Decent But A Slightly Flawed Sequel
Positive.
Chris Hensworth as Thor whom has made this part his own delivering a more human side to the God of Thunder.
Tom Hiddleson scene steels every scene he's in as Loki.
Christopher Eccleston is a surprisingly good in his role as Dark Elves Malekith
Superb well directed action scenes by Alan Taylor that deliver a epic scale...

3.0 out of 5 stars Among the weakest of the Marvel franchises so far
Tom Hiddlestone is, of course, epic as Loki and Chris Hemsworth has the physical presence and can effect the swagger that brings Thor to life, but other actors and their characters let the film down.

Christopher Eccleston continues his Hollywood career of playing yet another unconvincing villain, while Natalie Portman phones in an unmemorable performance...

Great, entertaining, fun and more thrills from the studio-comic-to-screen-film version of Marvel's various heroes that will continue to return to our screens for more fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than Iron Man 3 and the first Thor film, 27 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Thor: The Dark World [Blu-ray] [2013] (Blu-ray)
After a shaky start with Iron Man 3, Marvel's "Phase 2" seems to find its stride again in this film. This is due in no small part to Tom Hiddlestrom's Loki who once again steals every scene he is in. This film's strength is the better development of the main characters than was presented in the first film. The first Thor film suffered slightly in that it had a lot to set up for the Avengers which character development suffering as a result. Thor finding his humility and returning to Asguard happened too quickly and easily in the first film.

Here we see real development from both Thor and Loki as necessity and shared tragedy force them to put aside their differences and work together. Most of the supporting cast from the first film return with Natalie Portman, Stellan Skarsgård and Kat Dennings all getting a chance to strut their stuff again.

Unfortunately this leaves some of the more exotic characters sidelined. Once again, Thor's friends from Asguard get little to do apart from wave assorted weapons around and give Loki openings for his witty one-liners. But the worst victim by is Malekith. The main villain of the piece, played with brooding malice by the excellent Christopher Ecclestone gets barely 20 lines in the whole film. This is such as shame as he is the driver of the plot and gives such a great performance when he does speak. I would love to see an extended cut with more Malekith but sadly I doubt this will happen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good film, bad additional footage, 24 Feb. 2014
You'd think it being based in London that regular DVD would also get additional screen footage, commentary, and behind the scenes. But we don't, we get Captain America and Jane learns about the Aether.
Very unfair

2.0 out of 5 stars A mess, 22 Mar. 2014
This review is from: Thor - The Dark World (Blu-ray)
Loved the first film, but all the charm is gone this time. A sprawling mess of garbled folklore with a large number of overblown wooden performances, Tom Hiddleston as Loki being the notable exception.
