TOP 500 REVIEWERon 19 September 2013
What you get here is a classic performance by this wonderful West Coast band, and the sound quality is simply marvellous for such an old recording - just turn it up and be there!!!

The 10 tracks are all LaFlamme originals and contain some of the classics; if you enjoyed their first 2 studio albums, you are bound to enjoy this CD which runs for just under 80 mins.

The DVD does not contain the same track listing as the CD (which is what Amazon is currently showing at the time of writing), but it is a 40 min documentary called The David LaFlamme story which includes some vintage footage as well as some concert footage from 2012. It is an interesting document with some well known contributors, but oh how some have aged (but haven't we all!!) - I was especially pleased to see Barry Melton.

IABD had such a distinctive sound with LaFlamme's violin combined with eastern influences a giving them a real uniqueness, and the DVD shows it still sounds great today.

The packaging is a cheap slimline plastic box where the hinge had broken on delivery, however this does not detract from this being a great musical package for lovers of the genre and era - get it!

I'm typing this with the album leaping from the speakers.I'm amazed at the sound quality for such an old recording, all the more important because this captures IABD at their live high-point where their incredible playing and ability to spark off each other made their lives shows an overwhelming experience. A lot of the best moments on the longer workouts involve playing soft, suddenly exploding into rapid bursts of instrumental fury and using the fast/slow loud/quiet dynamic to keep breathing life into the extended workouts. Everything from Val Fuentes' drums to the LaFlamme's asides on the violin is miked and mixed to perfection, making this set a real find in a sea of substandared reissues. By the time of their - better known - Carnegie Hall live album they were covering John Lennon and lacking a bit of direction, but here they're playing the better cuts from their early work as if they truly believe this is the music that will change the world.

Interesting live recording made just before they signed for CBS to produce what in my opinion was one of the best albums from the West Coast at that time. So an essential purchase for anybody who loves that first studio album. Good sound for the time.

Lovely performance by It's A beautiful Day - highly recommended. Bombay calling and White Bird are the highlights for me.
