1.0 out of 5 stars Where did it go wrong?, 30 Aug. 2014
This review is from: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril (Nintendo 3DS) (Video Game)
I bought this a few months as I have really enjoyed playing all of the previous lego games and I only looked at the star rating rather than reading the reviews (personal gripe - I hate reviews which are from people who buy the game for someone else never play it and then post a 5 star review as the person receiving it was pleased - personal gripe over). Although I am probably not the target audience for these games I do like the fact that as a casual gamer I can get into these very easily and that when you are stuck you can play other areas until you feel ready to come back and that usually rather than dying you just fall apart and lose some studs therefore can continue with the level. This game however seems to have taken all of the elements I have enjoyed in the previous game and taken them all away!!! You need to progress through each level before anything extra is opened to you, unlike on the lego star wars game. Once you lose all of your hearts that’s it game over restart even if you were so close to the end or just took a wrong turn, unlike lego harry potter, which for me just makes the game boring as I want to feel like I am progressing. The in game hints appear for only a small period of time and usually by the time you notice that something has appeared it’s gone just as fast so you never get a chance to read it or be able to find it again.

For me a lot of the magic of the previous lego games has been taken away in this one and it has become mindless button bashing until you get to the end of the level. As if that wasn’t bad enough in story mode you can only really play as 1 character, so you can’t switch characters whenever you need to do something extra. Instead you have the ability to “tag in” another character for a fraction of time but if you are in the wrong position when you tag them in they don’t seem to do a lot and then you have to wait until you can tag then again. In free play mode you can only have two characters, one of which is chosen for you so if didn’t pick the right character you don’t have the extensive array that was previously available in other games, time to start again.

Some good things about the game as it’s not all bad, there are quite a few challenges to complete so you have to keep going back to the level and completing it with different characters, but some of them are quite hard like completing the level in 90 seconds or not taking any damage. The short cut scenes are quite funny like with all Lego games but then I would expect this as standard.

Overall I am disappointed with this turn of events and hope that the next lego game is back on form but for now I think I will go back to playing lego star wars the complete saga.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT FOR ME, 21 April 2014
This review is from: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril (Nintendo 3DS) (Video Game)
I am a great fan of all the lego games, but as previous reviewers have said, this one is different. It's the first one that I have given up on. It lacks all the joy of the other titles and is very frustrating. Progress is difficult as you have to restart every time you fail. A waste of money for me I'm afraid.

4.0 out of 5 stars LEGO Marvel Super Heroes is the best thing to happen to Marvel games since 2006's Marvel Ultimate Alliance, 16 Feb. 2015
This review is from: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril (Nintendo 3DS) (Video Game)
Marvel Super Heroes are assembling for an action-packed, brick-smashing good time! LEGO Marvel Super Heroes offers an original storyline in which Nick Fury calls upon Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor, Spider-Man, Wolverine and other heroes spanning the Marvel Universe to save Earth from such threats as the vengeance of Loki and the hunger of Galactus, Devourer of the Worlds. LEGO and Marvel fans will enjoy classic LEGO video game adventure and humor, while playing as their favorite Marvel characters.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes is the best thing to happen to Marvel games since 2006's Marvel Ultimate Alliance. It's a warm and witty, multi-layered approach to the brand that ties in hundreds of Marvel's most iconic characters, settings, and stories. While you can knock out the campaign story in around eight hours, the world is rich with content, and I've found myself up late every night for the past week playing for "just one more hour." It may not offer the challenge or player-driven context of this year's other open-world games, but those games would be hard-pressed to deliver as much fun and happiness as you'll find in Traveler's Tales latest.

2.0 out of 5 stars Beware - Hearts are not replenished!!!!, 31 Dec. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril (Nintendo 3DS) (Video Game)
Very disappointing game for children as your lives are not replenished if you die during a level. On the console versions and other Lego 3DS games you come straight back to life with full heats, not in the Marvel game as once your hearts are gone you fail the level and have to start again. I guess this is fine for adults but not ideal for children or my stress levels when they constantly die and fail the level!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not like other Lego games, 30 Dec. 2013
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril (Nintendo 3DS) (Video Game)
If you're looking at this thinking 'I like the Lego games and I like superheroes, this will be perfect' you might be disappointed. Like others have said, this isn't like other Lego games. It's less a matter of working your way through a level, more button bashing and running forward continually under fire. Part of what makes the Lego games great is what you can find amidst the level - the canisters, the red bricks, the stud counter - but this game either doesn't have or doesn't give you the time to look for any of these things. It's probably fine if you're a kid or aren't attached to a preconception of what a good Lego game should be but, for me, it's not that great at all.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!, 20 Dec. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril (Nintendo 3DS) (Video Game)
Awful game ... the quality of the pre rendered cutscenes between stages is just terrible and you can barely make out what is going on!
The level mechanics are shocking aswell!

This is the worst LEGO game ever made!

The only decent thing about the game is the Club Nintendo stars (but thats not worth the price of the game)

1.0 out of 5 stars It's Lego, but not as we know it..., 29 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril (Nintendo 3DS) (Video Game)
Maybe I'm just a boring stick in the mud, but if there was one thing you could rely on in a Lego game it's that it would be fun, not any more. Long levels have been replaced by 3 short vignettes filled with tasks to complete, there's no on the spot regeneration, if you fail you have to start the level again. Not to bad you might think given that the mini levels are so short? Wrong, it's frustrating and boring. There are no extras like stud multipliers or anything like that and the cut scenes are so horribly realised that I honestly thought there was something wrong with my DS! I think this is a case of a game made for other platforms and rushed for a shoddy release on the 3DS. I loved Lego Batman, if you're looking for that again as I was, only in the Marvel universe, I'm sorry we've been robbed, this just isn't it.
