4.0 out of 5 stars i Liked it but dont understand why this is book 4 ...

versus
3.0 out of 5 stars Winter's edge.
On the whole a totally predictable story... not that that's necessarily a bad thing. The main character is someone you care about enough to read to the end, but two weaknesses are the 'love' interest aspects which I found simplistic and juvenile and poor grammar. That really puts me off.

The story pretty much picks up where the first book left on (with a few months time gap). Sebastian (Bas) has been transferred to Falcons Keep where we see the character has grown in confidence and dealing with others. The story moves away a bit from the Emperor and his forces and focuses a bit more on Bas and how he and the characters around him develop.

We also get to explore a bit more of Alus and see snippets of the different groups that live within the various realms.

While I think this book was brilliant and even better than book one, the one downside I felt was the book could benefit a bit more with other perspectives, for example the view from the bad guys.

I am intrigue however to see from the hints dropped in the second book if we may find out more about how the immortals are currently interacting with modern day Alus.

Another bonus point in book two is that we see a bit less of an 'all powerful guy who gets everything straight off the bat' and more of a human element to him where he makes his mistakes and tries to learn from them (not going to give some parts away).

The introduction of some old characters with a range of new was done quite nicely and this book has really set up the 3rd installment to head into so many different directions.

Over all, I would highly recommend this book to others for a read. There are slight grammatical errors but they did not stop me at all from enjoying AND reading this book in a day.
