Epic Obsession is yet another classic release from Burning Rain.
One has to ask why it ha taken so long after their first two releases, Burning Rain and Pleasure to Burn.
At last Mr Aldridge and St John realised there is still a market for quality rock and the strong fan base that longed for more of what the two previous release had to offer.
Again one has to thank Frontier records for their support, without them the European rock market would fall.
The cd is full of straight forward rock with a sprinkling of ballads that never fail to satisfy your epectations.
In my opinion the stand out tracks are 'Your lust my fate', 'Ride the monkey' and 'Kashmir' but there isnt a weak track on the cd.
I have owned the two previous cds for some time and am still impressed by their quality....so much so i have bought the remastered versions c/w extra tracks.
Keith St John reminds me of the young Sammy Hagar and that is probably why he picked up the role with Ronnie Montrose (before he sadly passed away).
Lets hope the band stick together and release more material and tour the UK soon.
The only down side is that the cd/dvd version was only released in Japan which is only available if you are willing to lay out 30.00.......i hope the promotors see the error of their ways and release an affordable cd/dvd version in Europe.
Both Epic Obsession and Dig by Heaven and Earth must be front runners in the rock releases of 2013.
Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Burning Rain a band that should be bigger!!, 17 May 2013
This review is from: Epic Obsession (MP3 Download)
13 Years After "Pleasure To Burn", and BURNING RAIN are finally back in action. The Band, which has been mostly known by their amazing guitar player Doug Aldrich (DIO, WHITESNAKE, LION), is a kind of a supergroup that has been growing up under our noses and now it's back with an awesome cutting edge Hard Rock Album.

The album is a mix of LED ZEPPELIN, WHITESNAKE, Sleaze / Hard Rock and 80' like acoustic power ballads, the comfort zone of the foursome crew, and it sounds amazing. The rhythm section of Sean Mcnabb and Mat Starr is tight as you can listen straight from the opening tune "Sweet Little Baby", an up-tempo Rock N' Roll AC/DC, LED ZEPPELIN. Keith St. John's vocals are a mix of Coverdale and Plant but with an American touch, and Aldrich is ripping the hell of his Les Paul with riffs and solos that sound like a mix of 70s and 80's Hard Rock on steroids.

"Heaven Gets Me By" is the 4th Track and the first acoustic one that sounds a lot like new WHITESNAKE acoustic stuff (same guitar Player) but again very American. The whole vibe of the album is very strip club in sunset street and that's exactly what they meant and it sounds great, just a flashback to the awesome Hard Rock of the 80'. "Pray Out Loud", another one with a ZEPPELIN vibe is another must listen on the record and of course the single "Ride The Monkey".

In conclusion St. John is the kind of American singer that is just not made for today's scene, and that is a good thing. Aldrich Has the same thing like Slash, Zakk Wylde , Jimmy Page and John Sykes that no matter what band he's in you just immediately know it's him and his acoustic playing is over the top also. This is a must For Hard Rock Fans, ZEPPELIN, WHITESNAKE, awesome singing and guitars.

Three LP's which span well over a decade and you know what - you cannot split them. All just rock - pure and simple. In fact, you could mix and match tracks from all three LP's and there wouldn't be a weak link! This latest offering will not disappoint fans of Doug Aldrich - this guy is an absolute legend and continues to do what he does best - rock out!
