5.0 out of 5 stars Two of the Greatest Psychedelic Records Ever Made, 30 May 2013

If you don't know these albums or this band and you like psychedelic music read on... Group 1850 were a Dutch band from the 1960s as important to Holland as Pink Floyd were to the UK and the Grateful Dead to the USA. They made a handful of singles and albums (all good) but these two records are the pinnacle of their career and of the psychedelic genre. The first, Agemos Trip To Mother Earth, came out in 1968 and is a fantastically original mixture of psychedelic pop and acid rock improvisation with a very anarchic Dutch counter cultural vibe. The original album came in a 3D sleeve which sadly hasn't been reproduced here, but you can get a reissue on vinyl. If their debut wasn't already hinting at greatness the follow up Paradise Now - from 1969 and featuring an expanded line-up with two guitarists - is one of the greatest psych voyages ever made, sitting comfortably alongside Pink Floyd's Piper at The Gates Of Dawn, Jefferson Airplane's Surrealistic Pillow, The Grateful Dead's Anthem Of The Sun and CJ Fish's Electric Music For the Mind and Body. Yes it really is that good! A mind melting mixture of 'out there' conciousness expansion, free form jamming, swirling keyboards, trippy flute and percussion, incredible dreamy yet aggressive guitar work and all of it melding together to form an exotic other worldy hallucinatory music that still sounds ground breaking over 40 years later! Mike Stax of Ugly things has interviewed some key band members (apart from the sadly reclusive genius Peter Sjardin)and the albums in remastered form sound pristine. Sample Lyric from 'Friday I'm Free' "Sunday there's no Sun, Moonday theres no Moon, Tuesday I am Thursday and Friday I am Free...."

Buy it....you won't ever regret it...
