Another great read from Lexxie. Have read all the Heart of Fame books now and all are as good as this one. The characters in this book are sexy and funny, with a few moments of heartbreak. Lexxie Coupers books are a good easy read, not as long as some novels but thoroughly enjoyable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet M/M romance -Guarded desires, 7 Jan 2014

I sexy bodyguard and smoking hot actor meet in what should have been all about business, with Liev doing his duty to protect Chris from film fanatics and mobiles lobbed at Chris's head wrapped in women's underwear. The last thing Liev needs to discover is that he wants more than to protect Chris's body, he wants it for his own.
Chris has had his fair share of women and never even thought he could be attracted to men until the walking adonis, aka mr muscles, aka mr perfect, aka Liev - is sent to protect his body from screaming teens and women intent on grabbing his ...attention. Chris takes one look at the tall muscled fineness that is Liev and starts to stutter like a fifteen year old girl. Suddenly he's not so certain that he is heterosexual as Liev stirs his blood like no other, embarrassingly so at times.

The story is a sweet look into Liev and Chris's growing MM relationship. The good thing I liked about this book is that it was light but also hit upon some topics about MM couples and how parts of society are still against same sex couples. I love how the book is showing the reader that love is about finding the person who completes you, makes you feel whole -and that gender is secondary and why should people be made to feel less than other couples simply because they are the same gender.

The book was a shorter MM tale than I usually read, however I've noticed that some of the longer books whilst having more story building also tend to have more angst weaved into the plot. But then the longer books also have more pages to develop the characters working through these issues.

As this book is shorter than some 300+ page books I've read, I wasn't expecting a major angsty subplot to unravel and trudge the reader through it with the H/H to the other side, climbing Everest heights or falling to rock bottom from misunderstandings and therefore depressing lows -so ltd pages and the need to end conflicts? In steps Bethany, Chris's PA.

I kind of like Bethany's character as a take charge women, she looks after Chris and she knows personally that denying who you are to please other people or meet expectations is a sure way to spiral down into self loathing. She sees something between Liev and Chris and she doesn't hesitate to poke the relationship in places to speed up the angst process so they can get to the good bits instead of wallowing. She was kind of like their fairy godmother (no pun intended) there to help them along in their relationship. So although some reviewers have said Bethany detracts from the main characters (and in the beginning I can sorta see this as she is kinda kick ass and awesome) in the end I think she was a good solution to sorting out conflicts in the book in an amusing way without ruining the underlying story and main characters.

Yes I would have liked some more character depth and interaction, about Chris, Liev and Bethany. But the book works as is with the current page count. It's a light fun read, it won't make you a nervous wreck, take you on an emotional roller coaster or have you crying at 2am in the morning, but...it's got hot characters, whitty interaction and two hot guys getting it on ;) -you can't have it all.

Overall 4 stars as it put a smile on my face.
