I received this heart rate monitor a couple of months ago now, and have a had a passionate and exciting summer with it strapped to my chest.

It isn't waterproof as far as I know, and seeing as I'm not a tech guru or writer who received this for free, I am unwilling to test that ability.

It's a simple heart rate monitor, attaches to the strap via two "poppers", and is rather intuitive, as the text on the front needs to be in the correct, normal orientation for the monitor to analyse and transmit heart rhythms correctly. The strap connects to itself after passing around the chest via a small metal bar, the length of which is the same width as the strap itself. I might add that it is perfectly secure, and unobtrusive. The strap adjusts in the same way one might expect to adjust a man-bag/ hand-bag strap.

I use this monitor with Runtastic Pro, and Runtastic 6-Pack Trainer, on an iPhone 5s, and have yet to have any issues what-so-ever. Initial connection to my iPhone was very simple, and took less than ten seconds. Connectivity with the phone (whilst in an arm-band) during activity has been flawless, and I haven't experienced any drop out or sporadic or anomalous readings.

One tiny gripe I have, which technically belongs to my lovely girl-friend, is the strap sizing. The device comes with one strap that adjusts a lot. It fits me (~52" Chest, 115kg male) at almost its furthest reach, however doesn't adjust small enough to fit my wonderful companion (47kg female). This is only minor however, as I bought the device for myself and not her, but thought it may be worth mentioning.

All in all this device has given me exactly what I asked for, with no problems or glitches. It has done all this as well at half the price of it's competitors, which as a student I was naturally drawn to.

Solid effort chaps, take my 5 stars.

I've given this device a second chance, after changing straps to a well-used Polar. It has maintained a good signal, and is providing accurate data. It has gone from a 1* to a 3* rating, as the device itself is good, however anyone new to this will need to buy a quality strap to get any value.

------ initial review: this applies to the device as used from 'out of the box' ---------

I bought this recently, as I use Strava extensively for both cycling & running, and they've recently updated their software to allow BLE device compatibility. The price seemed to good to be true, and when I got it initially, that was very much the case. Instant sync, and a solid reading for the first 2 rides.

1 month on, I can only conclude that this was money wasted. EVERY ride, there's a sporadic reading; it either cuts out during the ride intermittently, or dies completely. I thought it may only be when you stop that it cuts out (i.e. for a coffee break), but no, even on short training rides/commutes, it cuts out for no reason. Massively frustrating, especially when you only analyse the data post-ride (I ride with my phone in my jersey pocket, but there should be a clear feed from the device. I would also state that the chest strap is the most uncomfortable thing i've ever worn, the plastic clip cuts you to bits.

In summary, when you buy cheap, you buy twice. Buy an HRM from a credible brand.

The information on this product lead me to believe that it would be compatible with my husbands Galaxy S3 phone and endomondo. However that has not been the case. It does work with the i-gqtU sports app, but my husband is already using an Endomondo training program. So we have returned the product because it didn't work with our required software.
However the actual monitor arrived on time as requested, and is well made with clear instruction on use.
Just not the monitor we need.

Works really well with all my apps. Compatible with only Android 4.3 and upwards. I've tested it with a 4.2 phone and doesn't work but same is true for all its competitors. So make sure your device is 4.3 or above. There is no real difference between this and ones costing 3 times the price such as polar model.

I have rated it 5 stars as it fulfilled all my expectations. I unpacked it, turned it on, connected to my phone via bluetooth and went out exercising. It seems to track my heart rate really well with no wild or unexpected readings. As long as you adjust the belt correctly it is comfortable and easy to forget that you have it on after a while.

Since my Google Nexus 5 phone running Android 4.4.4 supports Bluetooth 4/BLE I thought I would take a chance and give it a try. I had read that other Nexus 5 users had had success with using this HRM but that was not my experience.

I tried it with various apps as well as the official one from the i-Got. The phone as able to detect and connect to the HRM but could not get a sustained nor accurate reading from it.

I do not not want to unfairly vote down a device that may well work perfectly for other users and so will give it 4 stars on the basis of the build quality, packaging and supplied official Android app. I would however, urge Nexus 5 owners to be wary of purchasing it.

It works perfectly on Android if you have a phone that supports bluetooth 4.0 (or bluetooth smart or BLE, many names for the same thing) AND an application that supports pairing with this bluetooth 4.0 devices!!!
Endomondo on its march/2014 actualization added support for them and it works perfectly. Pairs very fast (less than 10 seconds) and it doesn't loose the signal while running (just tried on two runs, but worked fine on both).
Apps like Strava or many others similar applications don't support bluetooth 4.0 devices yet (they're working on it) even if your phone does.
I have a Nexus 4 with Android 4.4.2 and Endomondo pro 10.0.3 [...]

I've used it for the first time for a run, it worked well. It seemed to measure my heart rate accurately with no errors or massive variations. I used it with the iPhone 5 and the Strava app, it was no real bother to set up... Initially it wouldn't pick my heart beat up which did, for a brief time, lead me to believe that I was dead inside or heartless, which would tie in with statements made by my ex-girlfriend. However, it seems I was simply wearing it a bit to high on my chest and once I lowered it, the little fella (whom I now call buddy) picked up my heart rate and proved that b!tch wrong! He's got my back....

This is the first heart rate monitor I have used - I recently started using a turbo-trainer with my mountain bike for strength and endurance training and quickly realised that a heart rate monitor would be essential to support my training.

I searched several products and decided that I wanted a bluetooth monitor that I could tether to my iPhone 5. I chose this product - it arrived promptly. I read the instructions, wet the sensors and strapped it round my chest as instructed - I opened Endomondo on my iPhone and within a few seconds my phone had found the monitor and was happily recording my heart rate.

This product is great - it does everything I need and I had no problem tethering it to my phone.

Bought this to use with my iPhone 5s in conjunction with MapMyRun and it works flawlessly every time.
Only paired it the once, then it just works every time I put it on and open the program up.
Finds a heartbeat straight away and gives a good constant reading.
I have only had one issue and that was more my fault than this HRM, where after a gym session I started to run home and it started to slip down my body. I think the strap had loosened slightly, but this should have been expected after a 40 minute jog to the gym and an hour weights session in the gym. I now just make sure its still nice and tight and in a good position prior to setting off again and its been fine ever since.
I use this about 3-5 times per week and would recommend it.
