1 “The Sound of Nancy Wilson” and “Nancy” are two wonderful charted albums, her 23rd and 24th domestic album releases respectively. There are many rare singles included, two making their CD debut!
2 The sound is wonderfully and newly remastered in 2013. Her distinct and authoritative vocal styling was in full display. All the different instruments are clearly defined.
3 There is a 16-page booklet, with an informative essay by Gary D. Jackson. The original LP sleeve notes for both albums are also included. Best of all, the original album front covers are included, each occupying the entire page. Thank you, SoulMusic Records! This is the way booklet should be prepared. The album back covers plus album labels are included, but all condensed into one single page. Full discography was included.
1 There are no bonus singles tracks.
2 If the album back covers also occupied the entire page, then, the booklet would have been perfect. I know I am asking too much.
Nancy Wilson (born February 20, 1937) is an American singer with more than 70 albums, and three Grammy Awards. She has been labeled a singer of Blues, Jazz, R&B, Pop and Soul; a "consummate actress"; and "the complete entertainer". The title she prefers, however, is "song stylist". She has received many nicknames including "Sweet Nancy", "The Baby", "Fancy Miss Nancy" and "The Girl With the Honey-Coated Voice".
To collect Nancy Wilson, one has to start with her many albums, now available on CDs as twofers, but unfortunately, many are still quite expensive. I wish someday, Bear Family would honour this lovely lady with a few career covering box sets, like what they did for Doris Day, Nat King Cole, Ricky Nelson and Dean Martin. This current set, including two wonderful albums with many memorable passion-filled soulful songs and great sound, is a welcome addition to my Nancy Wilson album library, and is highly recommended to all Nancy Wilson fans.
