This PVR DMR-PWT530EB by Panasonic is to replace a DMR-EX75 that has just electronically `died' on me. Having looked at the specs of PVR's I thought that the "Panasonic DMR-PWT530EB Smart 3D Blu-ray Disc Player with 500GB HDD Recorder and Twin Freeview+ HD Tuners" would suit me nicely, despite the failure of the previous Panasonic.
This was ordered at midday on Boxing day and arrived by a timed courier at 14:00hrs on the 30th ! I thought that was very good for a free delivery service.
First impressions are very favourable!
Mains input, RF in (aerial) and RF out via supplied leads, plus a not supplied HDMI lead were all that was required to get going. Select SETUP, answer the various questions about the region you live in (in my case central Scotland) and within a few minutes the machine had tuned itself in and was ready to go.
The picture quality through the tuner (s) in the PVR both Standard Definition (SD) and High Definition (HD) are to my eyes, indistinguishable from the normal broadcast TV...superb!
Setting up recordings of TV programmes from the Electronic Programme Guide was easy. I liked the feature that if the programme was available in HD, you have the choice to use that or SD.
Two programmes can be recorded at the same time, which is a big help when schedules clash! You can also delete viewed material and set up a second new recording while the first is still in use. This is a useful feature as previously (on the old machine) I had to wait until recording had finished before doing any of the above!
Playback of recorded material is very easy too. Another useful feature I have found is that if you interrupt or stop a playback, next time you want to continue, the machine asks where to start the playback, "From the beginning" or "From when last played". Very useful as I had to note the position counter in order to pick up where I left off in the previous machine.
At first I was a little disappointed that a clock wasn't displayed when the unit was in standby. Reading the comprehensive manual however, showed me where to change a setting from `automatic' to `bright'. I now have a nice 24hr clock on display!
DVDs and Blue Ray discs all play extremely well, as do the SD cards from my digital cameras. Previously I could only use 500Mb cards, now I have used 8Gb!
All in all, I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone contemplating purchasing a PVR.

This item does not record to DVD or Bluray, for ayone thinking it does. For [laying DVDs and Blu Rays it is great. Rcordig freeview even some of the HD Channels is a doddle and the playback quality is great. I am storing some music and a couple of thousand images so that when entertainig we can have music and slideshow combined. It is a little tedious uploading this material and only allows 10 playlists but up to 999 track in each. When uploading from usb it will not open folders in folders so in anticipatio of this I created folders of artists thus redy made playlists. It does have a random play feature which will just play everything with pictures as a slideshow.
I have a previous model with VHS capabilitiy as well but this machine is slicker and the advertising has gone.
Navigation is a little bemusing to start with but the simple rule is If you want to play, Direct Navigator, if you want to input or record, Function.
I would recommend this although only 500 GB it is ample. there is a 1 TB version but at twice the price and recordig to DVD and Bluray is unecessary in these days of streaming.
Possibly a 1TB version of this model would be worth considering if you read this Mr Panasonic!
Should you buy it I am sure it will do the job.

It was well worth the upgrade. Now able to watch HD TV without the need for any other equipment. And able to watch Blu-ray disks.
Plus able to record from two channels at the same time.
It runs silently. My Sony that it replaced did not.
Even the standard DVDs look better when played on this machine.
Thumbs up to Panasonic

Excellent player/recorder and displayer of HD TV programmes. Easy to set up. Plays Blu-ray, AVCHD, MP4 and many other file-types. There's only one small point: it has a child lock which requires the input of a PIN for almost every adult kind of entertainment, including TV dramas and broadcast movies. [Amended after advice from 'Likes a Gadget'] The child lock is on by default and a nuisance if, like us, there are no children in the house who "need protection" (allegedly. Please see the comments to this post for how to turn it off.

I'm very pleased with this machine and use it a lot.

I am really pleased with the DMR-PWT530EB it is really easy to install and set up, you can record 2 programmes at the same time or record 1 while watching something you have previously recorded. I am using mine with a HD TV and the picture quality is amazing, it is best I have ever seen. I would 100% recommend this machine and the price from Amazon I found to be the best around with next day delivery.

Solid unit but the software is visually old and needs updating.

The Smart element is basic and very very slow (Netflix takes 2mins too load on a fibre optic line). No Amazon Prime app and hardy any others No updates from Panasonic...perhaps they have given up on the it.

I was hoping that the Remote Record function would be better as well the DIGA app on IOS is very basic and only occasionally connects to the unit. I can't watch recorded programs from this app. I found a 3rd party app that does this which was bonus.

The EPG is ok very bland again and no frills at all. Recording a program is simple and so is playback.

For the £240 price tag is too much for an old interface and . Going to return.

This is an easy to use unit. Very intuitive. Even my wife can now record missed TV programmes, something she couldn't master before: but don't tell her that !
