Another week, another Oh Sees album. Dwyer and co are among the most productive
songwriters around and keep putting out new stuff like there was no tomorrow.
That's a good thing because a) according to some of the lyrics there might not
be a tomorrow, and b) Dwyer has evidently found a rich vein of great songs, and
"Floating coffin" holds at least 4 new ones that should go down as Oh Sees classics
"Toe Cutter-Thumb buster" is fantastic. When that chainsaw guitar riff kicks in...
teeth will rattle and heads will roll! "I come from the mountain" and "Tunnel time"
are just as good, two dustkickers that should get the floor in a frenzy when they
play them live, as Thee Oh Sees are known for bringing a highwired beast of a show:
The closing song ,"Minotaur" is a supercool, loitering song with sinister string
arrangements and a slow beat. A fitting way to end the album, it reminds me of The
Pixies, but maybe it's mostly because of Bridget Dawson's Kim Deal-ish aa-aahs!
Thee Oh Sees have released a string of very good albums in recent years, this is
another one. It's not quite the masterpiece I think they are capable of making, the
quality is still too variable. Maybe that's not a concern at all for Thee Oh Sees;
to release something that will be regarded as a stone cold rock classic, I don't
know, but sometimes it seem that the only thing that stops them from doing so, is
a kind of impatience. As the groove according to Yoda go: "Slow down you must, and
stronger the force will be". That's an attitude that won't sit too well with the
regular Oh Sees tempo; "Speed up we say, and thee rock will continue to be on a roll!"

Thee Oh Sees are probably one if not the most exciting live bands around...along with the newly gigging JXBX.This album follows quickly on from their last and goes for a harder freak out vibe...It's great stuff. With bands such as Thee Oh Sees,Moon Duo,Tame Impala,The DynamitevPussy Club,Endless Boogie and JSBX it's a great period for amazing rocking groovy freak out bands...I Lovevthem all and so should you.
