The lawnmower arrived safely in reasonable time. I was dismayed to find that the drive cables were not attached and the spark plug needed setting. I can handle most DIY jobs but had to phone the Help-line twice to find how to assemble the drive cables. The hand book gave no instruction about this nor any instruction as to which cable was which. I had to work it out for myself. The Helpline was helpful and advised that the cables had to be attached while the handle was in the partly folded position, not out straight and that some force was necessary to stretch the wires to their positions. I was assured that they would take the strain which they did. The grass box had a stiffening support to be attached to its free margin, which was not a problem. It is easy to remove and empty.
I had chosen this model as it had an ignition switch starter and the cutting width was wider than my old one. Consequently the mower is heavy to handle. I charged the ignition battery and the mower started initially on the second go. The drive handles are stiffer than in my old mower, but manageable. I have cut the grass about four times with this machine and the cuttings are chopped very finely. This is good for mulching and if collecting the cuttings the box does not need emptied as frequently as in the older mower because the grass is so finely chopped. The main snag is that the ignition switch only turns the engine over a couple of times and then gives up. I end up having to start it with the cord. I am happy enough with the cutting quality but find the machine heavy and awkward in turning right angles and a bit hard to manage accurately when required to stop at edges.
On balance, this is quite a powerful mower and does a good job but the poor ignition start (for whatever reason) and its expensive cost not to mention the difficulty of assembling it without proper instruction would put me off recommending it. I am sorry I bought it and am glad I still have my old Briggs and Stratton mower.
