This three CD set
'THE SOUL OF DETROIT' '75 ORIGINAL SOUL GEMS
FROM THE MOTOWN VAULTS'
consists of

ORIGINAL RECORDINGS by the original artists.

At this low low price at under six quid means the cost is less than a modern day single CD.

But it's hard to work out which tracks are on the CD Amazon seemed to have jumbled all the tracks in one long set of lines.

If you are like me and find it hard to see exactly which tracks are on the two CDs then this easy to read list may help?

For any Motown fan this is great and at this price it is cheaper than uploading tracks from your own collection! If you have only just discovered Motown this will give you a good insight into where the artists came from but if you are already a hardened fan then there is not much here you are not likely to have already in your collection.

Covering the same ground as the very similarly-titled 2012 double CD The Sound Of Detroit- Original Gems From The Motown Vaults, this cheap-looking, occasionally dodgily-mastered, 3CD digipak offers a relatively cheap overview of Motown's very early years [1959-1962]. It boasts some well-known hits from that era like: Barrett Strong's 'Money (That's What I Want)'; The Miracles' 'Shop Around', and The Marvelettes 'Please Mr Postman' and 'Beechwood 4-5789'. Some very familiar names - The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Smokey Robinson - also weigh in with lesser known tracks from their impressive back catalogues. Rummaging through the vaults also unearths a few interesting obscurities, like Paul Gayten's 'The Hunch', which is a Northern Soul favourite. But the selection of the 75 songs is pretty scattergun: there is a surfeit of ropey B-sides, and cuts from bit-part players, from that brief period that don't really indicate why Motown - as the sleevenotes in the very small font size tell us - "grew to become the biggest African-American owned business in the United States".

This has a wide selection of Motowns early output, some good some bad. Nothing that knocked my socks off but I have a lot of Motown. Good starter for 10

Fortunately you can always change a sleeve but this is worse than all those cheapo cheapo LPs of sound-alikes in the 70s.It makes me feel ill
