I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this product. The picture quality is really excellent. Unfortunately, there are not very many games that utilise this peripheral just yet but I was very impressed with the AR minigames in the Playroom app. I found the response to movement and the light from the controller to be very consistent, despite some clutter around the room.

One complaint I would have is that the cable is a little shorter than I expected. I think about a 3m/10ft cable would be appropriate but, then again, the cable provided was just about long enough for my setup.

For what it's worth, I think there is potential for some great games that make use of the camera in the future and, obviously, the camera is a good investment for anyone interested in streaming or sharing videos. It is a little expensive, like most products with the Playstation branding, for a peripheral with such limited use at the moment, but the quality of the product is undeniable. It was worth the price for me.

I got the camera as part of the Mega pack. Honestly, I would not rush to buy this as a separate; If I hadn't got this within the bundle I wouldn't have bothered, at least until more games come out.

The operational and technical performance of the camera is excellent. It seems to be a good quality picture even in low light, and picks up detail well. Using the in-built "Playroom" app of the PS4, my daughter and I had great fun with these little Wall-E-like robots spilling out into our own front room and interacting with us both in a kind of "Augmented Reality" environment. A robot that was seemingly floating around my head reacted immediately and realistically when I headed it like a balloon. Impressive stuff.

As well as being able to recognise your face even from various angles, it also picks up clearly the glow of your dualshock4 controller. And because the camera also incorporates microphones, having it enables chat (for things like Skype once it comes out on PS4) and fancy features like voice control.

It remains to be seen how well this is incorporated into later games, but certainly from the launch freebies I think the future looks bright indeed. The likes of Just Dance will be brilliant I'm sure. I just hope developers get really inventive.

The real disappointment I have with this peripheral is its mounting flexibility - or lack of. Annoyingly, out of the box there is no stand, no clip, no nothing. The cable into the camera comes out of the back of the block at the right hand side of the camera body (as you face it), and that block rotates maybe about 30degrees up and down - not enough to have it so the cable comes out of the top or bottom. I have a super slim flatscreen TV, wall mounted, and the PS is on a shelf low to the right - and my only option out of the box is to have the camera balanced on the (vertically stood) PS4 and a viewing angle that's far from ideal. Even the 3rd party clips Officially Licensed Clip for Playstation Camera (PS4) or ORB Camera TV Clip/Wall Mount (PS4) would protrude too far.

On measuring, the camera body is 30mm deep, and the stiff cable coming out of the back adds another 20-25mm of depth. So you're probably looking at about 50-60mm overall protrusion. I think most TV layouts will probably be OK, although you may too be disappointed if you have to shell out extra for the clip. But more and more TVs are being wall mounted these days, and they're getting thinner, and I won't be alone with this problem.

In all this is good technology that's slightly marred by something that should have been done better. When games come out that take advantage of it, hopefully they will be good enough to make up for it.

Its ok. Good for some games, non existent for others. Sony need to adapt the feature to make it worth while like xbox have. Also it came in a brown box not the PS4 box like showed . While looking at the box it looks like it has the cradle with it, which it doesn't. Its voice recognition is ok, but struggles sometimes to decipher and you have to say the exact phrase for it to be recognised, this can also be slow especially if you already have the controller in your hand. Novelty item until Sony utilise it.

Fun for the little one, haven't used too much other than playroom which is very limited. However it is pretty good when playing alien isolation with the camera. Some people may get more out of the camera, hopefully more games publishers will make use of it to enhance gamer experience.

This Camera is pretty good and not that expensive. Only if you wanna have fun with some "casual" games, mostly on The Playroom. Give orders to your console by just saying: "PlayStation" + your order, fast and useful.

I recommend.

Currently not worth buying at this point of its life cycle, but that not to say it doesn't have potential.

The camera can be used in may different ways from dashboard navigation, in which you speak to the Playstation and the build in mic picks up your voice (sometimes)and by using basic commands you can navigate around the playstion 4. to fun little mini games which my little cousins loved and admittedly where kind of enjoyable in an adult environment. sadly too few little games currently are available so they became quite repetitive. Another interesting features is that with Playstation Live you can live stream game-play of yourself and you can use the camera as a sort of web-camera so views can watch you munch on a bowl of coco pops as well as your game footage.

Yes, It will never be as integrated as Kinect sensor is with the Xbox One and isn't nearly as ambitious, but its a lot cheaper and does a decent job.

Just a warning you cannot turn the mic off. So watch what you say online.

But it lacks software support. Its now been a few months since launch and there are no games that use the camera. The playroom is a fun distraction and has a few additional downloads now. However, in total the playroom only has five different sections if you do download everything (My Alien Buddy, Ninja bots, AR bots, Hockey and Asobi). Realistically this won't distract you for long. The ability to facially recognise you is nice but the voice recognition is a bit hit an miss. The camera is good mind but where are the games that have you looking like a lunatic to use the camera for?

If the software follows this then its worthwhile. Right now its good but its just untapped potential and not really worth buying unless you have a specific purpose in mind.

Barely any games use this device, the facial recognition sign in is significantly longer than manually selecting your profile and the streaming with it is bog standard. Nothing to write home about. Would not recommended due to its serverly limited application.
